Would they treat a gringo as well, or would we get raked over the coals if the federales pulled one of us over at high speed?

I think it would be risky. Depends a lot on the individual officer, but they could give you a hard time - especially if driving a car with american plates. If you rent something over here I think you would probably have no problem.

That's what I thought.  Thanks man.  Keep posting the speedo pictures.
A good friend will come bail you out of jail...BUT, a true friend will be sitting next to you saying, DAMN...that was fun!

Did 133.4 on my motorcycle (Suzuki SV650) last weekend.

This was at BIR (Brainerd Intl Raceway), GPS verified...lap after lap!  That was basically top speed, the front straight is a little over a mile long that you start at around 75mph.  Top out about half way down it.

Yup!  I'll grab a picture of the GPS speed map it goes up pretty quick to 125 then takes a bit to get to 130+.

Here's a video for the time being.  ~1:50 is when I get onto the front straight for the first time at full speed (we launch from the front straight):
www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SgEwm_liHw

Bikes featured:
black bike yellow leathers: early 90's Honda F2 (90HP)
Rest are 2nd gen SV's, the red one has 90+HP which is why he goes flying past me.

Next year I'm getting a faster bike

Just the bike, stopped running the car once I started racing Lemons / chump car.  Didn't make sense to put the wear on my street car!

Caught eyes with a Z4 today.  New body.  We ran home most of the length of my commute.  It was intense, but fun.  And I absolutely guarantee that the new body with the smaller engine does not have the legs on me, even with the top down and his up.

115 was the max speed.

What is the max you have hit on the 1er? I rented a 116i when I saw you in Munich, probably hit slightly above 210kph on that once, but you needed a looooooong stretch of road.

On another note, do track your Z4. Safer and more fun. (Not that I don't engage in similar "locking-eyes" once in a while).

I've maxed the car out at 235 km/h but I am sure the speedometer is way off at that speed. According to the manual my top speed is 210 km/h. I am guessing I am probably doing 215-220 km/h realistically when driving at 235 km/h.

If you look at my RPM at speeds of 200 km/h, I still have a long way to go before hitting the redline...

Maybe the car is drag limited instead of rev limited?

At one point I was alongside him and I gave him the thumbs up, but I couldn't see his response.  He tinted the windows so dark that you couldn't see into the car.  On a convertible.  The kind of car built specifically to let the sun in.  He tinted the windows.

Oh, I think I will.  The track where I drove the Ferrari has events where you bring your own car and run open with other cars, staggered, but with designated safe passing zones.  And then there's always autocrosses.  The only issue is how early in the morning these things start.

It's amazing how people get switched on though.  I was just driving, doing 80-85, cutting traffic up like hot butter, when I get behind him.  He was doing about 70.  As soon as I got close, before I indicated for a pass, he started to get on it.  At that point, it wasn't like I was going to back off.  At worst, he did open up a passing lane that wasn't there before.  But we drove probably 80% the length of my commute like that.  At one point, he went left and the passing lane closed up right behind him, so I went right and ended up a dozen lengths ahead of him.  I still read traffic better than these people.  I had to slow down to let him catch up.

Drag is definitely involved like in any car, but I really want to know how fast I am actually driving at 235 km/h given speedometer inaccuracy. At 235 km/h according to my navigation system I'm actually doing "220 km/h".

That sounds right. Euro speedos by law cannot understate speed ever even if an idiot owner fits wrong-sized rims, thus they overstate speed a lot.

I wonder how fast I was really going when my speedometer said ~142. I know it's 2 mph slow at 100 mph (radar picked me up at 98 mph), but I'm not sure about 140.
