But the many that still suck tend to suck a lot less at least.

The video is unclear enough I can't tell a whole lot about the car, but I hope they clean up the interior a little- I actually rather like the look of the current model, but the dash was my least favorite thing about the car, I think it's been getting worse as new models come out. It'd be nice if they stepped the exterior design up a bit too (the Optima is currently my favorite by far in this category), but I doubt they'll be too adventurous.
I actually think the new Corolla looks a hell of a lot better than the last one, but managed to be a worse car overall. I disliked the car strongly, but I rather liked the exterior design- inoffensive enough while still retaining a sporty edge.
i think the main issue with the current toyota corolla is the fact that its such a dated design now that it is so close to the end of its cycle. it did not look all that bad when first introduced. the slight exterior updates freshen it up a bit for the 2011 model year, but with the sharp looking hyundai elantra, soon to be released kia models, more refined (yet conservatively designed) 2012 honda civic sedan, a hot selling new vw jetta, a better aging than corolla mazda3, an all new ford focus and a "too early to tell" small fiat-based dodge sedan (and possibly an upscale chrysler variant) in early '12 or so, the buying public is more than ready for the next corolla.

The Corolla's not close to the end of its cycle. It came out as a 2009 model. It's got plenty of time left.

It appears to be in line with the teaser and spy shots, and the grille matches the updated Highlander's, so this is probably legit. I think it looks pretty good from this angle, though I'd prefer it with slimmer grille bars.

From that picture it looks just like a Prius from the a pillar back.

They have been getting a lot bigger looking and a lot uglier in the last several years. The grille in that picture is a bit unfortunate. The headlights and wheels look pretty nice, and the rest of the car looks fine from what you can see, but that grille makes the nose look off somehow.

the new 2011 toyota grille treatment is not all that attractive, but i truly think that of the '12 camry (as shown, anyway) looks far nicer and classier than that on the current camry.

Alan

It doesn't look much different.  They need to step their game up like Hyundai has so far.

No, it was a special Hybrid Camry concept. Don't remember what was so special about it, though.

Probably.  I actually sort of like the way the current Camry looks in higher trim levels.

Upgraded Plasmacluster?
Upgraded Plasmacluster is no joke. Once they got done covering up the charred bodies (and stunningly clean cabin air), Toyota hid it away somewhere.

my mistake... it seems much longer than that, perhaps due to quite a few redesigned cars in its class being released between then and now. in this segment, especially with high gas prices, the competition will grow more and more fierce, i think... benefiting the customer.

^ 2o6, thank you for clarifying that mystery of the special hybrid camry concept and pics. wow! it looks mighty nice. i also agree with another entry (above) about the current camry looking pretty decent in higher trim levels (i.e., se, xle). the wheels are key, i think. the outgoing camry model still looks pretty good, but a shortened life cycle for the toyota camry and corolla & honda accord and civic would bode well, especially with the fresh faces from korea (i.e., kia optima, hyundai sonata). the nissan altima and maxima, with more adventurous styling is staying fresher looking because of this, imo.

Blue is hotter than red.

Yew know nothing about technology.  Blue lights make it run cooler, and red lights make it run faster.

Not a fan of the taillights, but it otherwise looks nice. But neither the front nor rear end match the teaser or spy shots of the U.S. model anyway.

Accompanying article:

Earlier this week we brought you images of what we believed to be the revised 2012 Toyota Hybrid Camry, but we can now officially reveal that what you are looking at is the new 2012 Toyota Aurion.
he images reveal a hybrid version of the Aurion, which is sold as a premium Camry in Japan and a number of other Asian countries.

Toyota Australia?s Elise Rennie confirmed the vehicle in the images, from Holiday Auto magazine via Brazilian website Noticias Automotivas, were an accurate representation of the facelifted Aurion, which will be built in Australia from early next year.

?Our Aurion will look very similar to that [car in the images].? Ms Rennie said

?There will be a few slight changes for Australia, as there always is from country to country.?

As the Aurion in the images is a hybrid model, our Aurion will lose Toyota?s traditional hybrid design elements, including the blue badging, unique grille and gaping lower air intake.

Ms Rennie said the 2012 Toyota Aurion would go on sale in Australia late in the first quarter of 2012 (around March).

It will follow the new 2012 Toyota Camry, which is due in the last quarter of this year, and the 2012 Toyota Hybrid Camry, which will hit showrooms earlier in the first quarter of next year.

The exterior styling of the Aurion will be more conservative than the 2012 Camry, which will get more aggressive angular headlights and a broad grille.

if truly the 2012 camry, it does look like a mild makeover but it is my understanding that there will be highly significant mechanical upgrades, technical advances and interior enhancements. i was hoping for something more daring, but in defense of toyota, it is hard to argue with the current vehicles success. if the underpinnings and a first class lexus-like interior rumors are correct, the car should remain an enormous triumph.
