There?s a new king of the N?rburgring Nordschleife: a 2010 Dodge Viper ACR reportedly turned in a blistering time of 7:12 on the Green Hell yesterday.

That time is good enough to top the quickest previous lap of 7:14, which was posted by the Lexus LFA N?rburgring-Edition. There are three cars, including a pair of Radical SR8 models the Gumpert Apollo Sport, which have been faster around the ?ring, but they truly stretch the definition of series production vehicles.

The Viper ACR?s previous best lap of 7:22 (completed in 2008) was bested through the cooperation of three parties. Dodge?s Special Racing Team provided the driver, Texas Dodge dealership Tomball Dodge loaned two showroom-condition 2010 Viper ACRs, and German racing team Mintgen Motorsport/Vulkan Racing handled the cars? prep work.

SRT also brought along a Dodge Viper ACR-X, the spec racer variant of the ACR, which reportedly posted an impressive time of around 7:03.

As the folks at Lexus learned, a record at the N?rburgring rarely lasts long, but for now the Viper possesses the crown.

Still an epic car, nearly two decades after it first came out eh?

It also could not be more different in the way it goes about t than the LF-A (and at a mere fraction of the price too)
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Yes! We have a good ole Ring war.

I hope we see cars breaking the 7 minute barrier for legit streetable cars (AKA not a radical) pretty soon.

Big tank-engine in a light, RWD coupe without the least bit of nannying.  I can dig that.

To pose a interesting question.

What manufacturer do you think will break into the sub 7 minute lap time first?

SVT666

I think the next Viper ACR will do it.

You mean the new viper in the next few years?

Yup

Ohh, haven't heard anything about it.

Oddly, I find it a very very hard question. I'm guessing the "answer" will be surprising to many.

SVT666

It's going to be lighter and will be closing in on 700 hp.

Meh, I'm not so sure.

- The GTR is getting faster and faster.
- The 991 GT2 RS ought to be nuts.
- Ferrari should have a Enzo successor in the works.
- The Pagani Hyura (sp?) might be a rocket ship.
