SVT666

Episode 1 was on last night and you can watch it on Streetfire.net.  It's one of the best episodes I've seen in a while.  Damn I want an Aventador.

CJ

It was good, that's for sure. The bit where they were going around 8 mile loop had me clenching my teeth! As did the Imola part. This was Top Gear at its finest. Fast cars, problems along the way, and an epic battle between drivers and cars.

VTEC_Inside

The only thing I would like to have seen was Italian Stigs times in the other cars around Imola. I wonder if Ferrari had a problem with that.

Neither one of the cars did all that bad in terms of mileage during the high speed segment.

Id still take the 458 though.

Episode 2:

Hammond goes to NASCAR
Clarkson drives the Merc SLS Spider (and the Stig takes it around the track)
Matt LeBlanc is the Star in the Reasonably Priced Car - and takes fastest lap from Rowan Atkinson
A look at the Chinese motor industry

Good program. With the exception of a bit of dicking about from Chinese Stig, it was actually about cars and all the better for it!

Mustangfan2003

Watching episode 2 right now.

I thought Chinese stig was funny.  But the rest of the episode was meh, really no other word for it.

No offense man, but did you have to give away all of it?

I'm happy I didn't read thist thread before watching the episode. I like some of the surprises to actually surprise me.

Season 18, Episode 1

- Thoroughly enjoyed this episode, and I've watched it twice already.

Grade: A

Season 18, Episode 2

- I enjoyed Chinese Attack Stig.
- I enjoyed Richard's NASCAR experience, though, Fifth Gear's segment from a couple years ago was much better
- Matt LeBlanc was pretty good
- The SLS Roadster segment was enjoyable as well

Grade: B

hotrodalex

I enjoyed the NASCAR segment. Rather funny that a British show was the one to show how NASCAR can be kinda cool sometimes.

Fifth Gear did a much better segment than Top Gear:

Fifth Gear at NASCAR - Part 1

Fifth Gear at NASCAR - Part 2

It's a global world we live in nowadays!!

Mind you, I doubt that the jokes about the theme tune to the Archers that the Stig was allegedly playing, and even the jibe about French breast implants translated beyond the UK?

J86

French breast implants yes (saw that on the 'news'), no idea about Archers theme song...

Lebowski

Is this on BBC America yet?  I didn't know it premiered yet and I can't find any episodes

CALL_911

Matt LeBlanc was cool, the NASCAR segment was decent, I didn't love the Chinese car segment.

I liked the first episode a lot. This one, not so much.

Damn.  Do I ever love Jeremy's DBS.

VTEC_Inside

Ep3 was ok. The car chase thing was a bit too drawn out for me.

I was howling at all the track references on the Corsa at the beginning.

After a good start in the past couple of weeks, I thought Episode 3 was pretty dreadful.

As to the comments in the Corsa report, well, I have to agree with Mr May. Mfrs have become obsessed with tuning cars for the 'Ring, and the (UK) press in assessing them in this way, leaving us with cars which are compromised on the road.  Can't work out who would pay ?24k for a chavvy Corsa VXR Nurburgring - the people to whom it would appeal (the "youff") cannot afford either to buy it or insure it, and by all accounts, the Renault Clio 200 Cup is just as good, for about ?7k less money.

SVT666

I thought the episode was good for the most part.  Hammond's jump and explosion scenes were obviously the worst parts of the episode, but I thought the car chase segment was alright.  Ryan Reynolds was very entertaining.

I think having Top Gear film your car chase sequence was a brilliant idea for that director.  First off it gives your small low budget film a ton of exposure, and truthfully while the presenters may just be goofing around, the Top Gear production team probably films more high quality car sequences than anyone else.  The great cinematography in the track sequence with the Lambo, Mclaren, and Noble in episode 1 is evidence to the high production values the team is capable of.  I guess they've been asked to do the car sequences for another Die Hard movie.  I hope they do it.

SVT666

Me too.  If I was a director and wanted a kickass car chase that's what I would do.

A new Die Hard movie?  Is Bruce Willis going to chase the baddies in his wheelchair?

I think this last episode was definitely among the worst episodes ever (of what is admittedly a fantastic show, so worst in this case not necessarily = crap).

I've seen much worse from Top Gear than that episode.

Colin

After the complete drivel of last week, tonight's was much better.

Yes, there was some dicking about, but it was quite comedic.
