Your $20,000 weekend car

All logical thought be damned. You want to spend ~$20,000 on a car for the weekend. Price range is $18,000-22,000.

New. Used. Doesn't matter. Reliability should be of lesser importance in this decision.

Used Mx-5 (Miata) here is in that price range.

NB sounds too sensible.

C4 Corvette, prefferably with the ZF six-speed, and a T-top, please.

Easy.

Quick search is showing a bunch in the low 20k's range, with average mileage probably around 40k miles or so.

Purely 'cause this is currently "in the household' (Girlfriend's, not mine!  And pic is not the exact car, although it is the right color.)

Given my druthers, I'd have something old, small, convertible, and foreign.  I think MGBs can be had for less, I wonder what sorta Alfa I could get for that coin...

First thought was Hemi's choice.

But I'm liking J86's choice, too. Hmm...

Not that hard at all, especially for the FD.  I personally checked out like 3 FD's with under 80K miles, in pretty mint condition for 10K-12K around this area in the past 4 years.

NSX for 22K (probably can bargain them down)

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u&car_id=303939930&dealer_id=1060981&car_year=1991&systime=&doors=&model=NSX&search_lang=en&start_year=1981&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&search_type=both&distance=0&min_price=&rdm=1328054485857&drive=&marketZipError=false&advanced=&fuel=&keywords_display=&lastBeginningStartYear=1981&end_year=2013&showZipError=n&make2=&certified=&engine=&dma=HARTFORD_AND_NEW_HAVEN&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&body_code=0&isFlashPlugin=true&transmission=&default_sort=priceDESC&max_mileage=&color=&address=06410&sort_type=priceDESC&max_price=23000&make=ACURA&seller_type=b&num_records=25&cardist=308&standard=false

This guy wants 13K for this RX7, which is kinda steep.  The last one I remember checking out was a 94, 56 original miles, mint, for 12K.

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=p&car_id=297948017&dealer_id=66203615&car_year=1994&model=RX7&pager.offset=25&search_lang=en&start_year=1993&search_type=both&distance=0&rdm=1328054579648&marketZipError=false&sownerid=573857&lastBeginningStartYear=1981&end_year=2013&showZipError=n&dma=HARTFORD_AND_NEW_HAVEN&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&body_code=0&first_record=26&isFlashPlugin=true&default_sort=priceDESC&address=06410&sort_type=priceDESC&max_price=20000&make=MAZDA&seller_type=b&num_records=25&cardist=2464&standard=false

And you can get early 996's for under 20K all day and all night long.  They are giving those things away.  I don't blame them as they are ticking time bombs with the RMS problem.

The only came with Targa tops. The C3 was the last Vette that had T-Tops.
But anyway I'd go with one of these!  ;)

Not sure how I feel about the ZR1 look. Makes it seem kinda poser-ish. Also, FUGLY wheel.

Actually Base Vettes (Grand Sport) are sold with the wide body kits so I would give it a pass. Now if it has ZR1/Z06 badges they would be the first things to go. And yes the 2005 steering wheel is a mess but with I could give it a pass at 22k.

Think I could find a FD RX-7 that was in the condition I'd accept for that. And anyone who knows me on this site knows that's what I really want anyway.

If I could find an NSX, that. Otherwise, probably a Boxster S like the one Caddy posted above or an S2000.

At first, I was thinking, if I'm getting an old Merc, I'd get one with a more classic look and feel. But it's hard to pass up a V12 engine.
