Volvo V40

Already have the "A3" thread in the Luxury talk, and I've always viewed Volvo below Audi.

Slots below S60.

I honestly do not know how I feel about it. It is interesting, and I like some shapes and elements of the design, but that beltline kink in the middle of the rear door is nonsensical and illogical.

2o6

The more I look at it, the more I hate it.

Raza

It looks pretty cool.  I'd never buy one, since I don't like my cars stamped 中国制造.

Chances are a significant portion of your car touched China at one point in time.

I like it, looks distinctive. Is it still on the Focus platform?

There's way too much going on on the rear end.

Who knows, I think Volvo may be using a truncated S60 platform, but we don't know for sure yet.

At first, I thought it was a Focus. Anyone else make that mistake?

AHEM...

2o6

Just because it's inspired of old, does not make it particularly good. It looks like an afterthought.

Vinsanity

I somewhat like it. Makes sense as a replacement for the C30.

J86

Anytime someonce wants to make a small wagon, im game!

So, like, what's the deal with this car? Is it a C30 replacement? A V50 replacement? Both? Neither?

Both, I think. Both of the S40/V50 and C30 will be dropped very soon.

I think there will be a 3-door model, I don't know for sure.

J86

That's too bad.  I like both those cars.

Vinsanity

I don't think it would make much sense for them to discontinue the sedan S40. Just make a sedan version of this. Boom. S40.

The S40 is now an old design, based on the previous generation Focus platform, and sales volumes have dropped to not a lot on most markets.

As I understand it, this model replaces the S40 and V40 for now. A C model and an XC model are in the works for launch in due course.

CJ

The S40 and V50 have been discontinued for the US market since mid-2011.

I like this V40 quite a bit.

Onslaught

It looks ok. Are those three window washer squirters on the hood?

Looks like it. Saab does the same thing. Swedish fetish.

It's OK, if you're into this sorta thing. The rear is too weird for my taste, though. They better come out with a sedan version soon, however, if they wish to be successful in the U.S. market.

The S40 was always a pretty popular car, at least where I live.

Madman

Love the looks of it, even that weird little kink in the side.  I'm still not entirely comfortable with Chinese ownership of Volvo, however.  I guess as long as the Chinese are just supplying the money and leaving the engineering to the Swedes, I can't complain too much.

It's lead paint and the leatherette is made from factory workers who killed themselves due to horrific working conditions.

i really like it, too. it is just shy of looking like nearly everything else following the introduction of the similar looking ford fiesta and ford focus (nice designs, though!) and others, but ample volvo signature cues to make it distinctive enough for my tastes.

I don't think so.  I think it's on a modified S60 platform.

If his car weren't secretly poisoning him with Chinese parts, he'd have used the right "its."

I sure hope the hideous wheels and spoiler on the back of the one in the lower picture are exclusive to some European eco-trim. I figure that's got to be why those extra... strakes? ... are there.
