Still is owned by Audi. Today the A6, A7, A8, and R8 are built there. Plus the devlopment work for the RS models is centered in Neckarsulm.  As a nod to history the factories address is NSU street 1. They have a museum that has a nice section on NSU.

I think Porsche has indicated they don't want a car that slots below the Boxster, which is what has thrown a monkey wrench into the whole project since they have to recalculate whether it's worth it to build the car.
