3000GT. My friend's parents got a VR4 in 1993 and it BLEW MY 10 YEAR OLD MIND. His mom (a MILF, now that I think about it), loved to floor it on onramps and the thing would just *go*. I enjoyed it even from the perch of those awful rear bucket seats.

I know they're pigs but I still have a soft spot for them because of it.

you know what, screw you guys and your Mitsubishi Diamante jokes

Can somebody explain the link between Diamantes and the black community? I do not understand.

Probably just the simple fact that these were made before the Chrysler 300 came out, and continued production after they stopped making the Acura Legend.

Well, what I'm guessing is that sometime in the early 90's, some neighborhood bigshot was the first on his block with a Legend/Diamante, managed to impress quite a few of the ladyfolk, and the rest is history. Or so the story goes.

2o6

Diamantes are very cheap, and are better made than the Chrysler LH cars.

They also are big and look good.

2o6

Accords of similar vintage are also popular.

FUCK THE EVO. That car is for wussies who can't merge unto a freeway with a normal car and think that if they have 280-hp under the hood they're a good driver.

This is where the good stuff is at.

It be even better with a US Corsair flying over it.

As for the cars, I can't think of one. I have never liked Mitsubishi and I never will. And you really have to suck ass to be a Japanese brand and have never made one thing I like. Or nothing that's coming to my mind right now.

omicron

That's a very good question. There are a few Mitsubishis that I like, but nothing that particularly pulls at the heartstrings. I suppose an Evolution here and there, and the odd Magna, and some earlier models for a bit of retro whimsy, but....

Legends were much more popular here but this is true.

At the time the Diamante was being made, Mitsubishi dealers would finance damn near anybody.  The Diamante was the biggest, most pimptastic car Mitsu made.  Ergo, at the risk of sterotyping, a big ostentatious car that can be bought by people with shitty credit is just begging to become a ghetto status symbol.  Hence, for a few short years, the Diamante was the Mercedes E Class of "Da 'Hood".

As an aside, back when I worked for a Volvo dealer, we had an African-American lady who wanted to trade out of her Diamante and into a Volvo.  We did the paperwork and sent her away in the car but then something in her credit history popped up and the lender withdrew the loan.  We shopped it around but couldn't find a lender willing to buy the deal.  We ended up having to go to her place of work to repo the Volvo and give back her Diamante.

Of the ones I'd like to own most, I think I'm going to have to say Evo IX.  It was the last of the original Evo breed, really, before the X completely changed the look of the car.  It's the Porsche 964 of Evos.
