Honda's PR.....

Remember the botched Crosstour FB release? And the overwhelmingly negative response to the new Civic? (and Honda's seemingly obvious backpedal)

Now it seems like Honda/Acura is going for a faux-journalist appeal to the common man sort of approach with the new ILX.

What kind of feel-good BS is this?

This one is almost as bad...

The car is ugly, and given the price, doesn't look to be very competitive.

That's a great local brewery that we have. Do I drink their beer? No.

Even a self proclaimed Honda kinda guy... the new Acura sedan should have been the "new Civic" and then up from there. I understand the reasoning behind this new move (marketing approach of the entry level Acura and the vehicule itself and all) as they prepare an anslaught of new vehicles, including the 2014 Accord. Fortunately for Honda, though, a far superior Civic was not lost in the crowd of that horrific car shortage they experienced during the double punch storms that plagued Japan. An interesting point (an aside) -- an enormous tragedy not "capitalized on, thankfully) was the countless lives lost, including workers and family members of Honda and Toyota employees... and far too many other lives, too... one reason I come down hard on company's that knowingly lure shoppers from an affected brand into their showrooms. Business is business, of course, but there are tasteful ways in which to conduct business... and I think most adhere to this...

But to Honda's 2012 Civic...  it is selling very well with still 99 percent of all Honda sales registered as retail (Automotive News, May 2012). Amazing, I think... yet, the "I gotta have it factor" of the Insight and Civic (minus "Si" model sedan, coupe) is missing, for now, IMO...

Let's see.....lots of obviously scripted softball questions to designers and engineers who refuse to admit it's a tarted-up version of the underwhelming North American Civic.  Typical marketing puffery.

BTW, who the hell is this Tyson guy, anyway?  Yet another wanna-be D-list psudo-celebrity I presume?

The 2012 Civic is selling so well because they are practically giving the things away. You can get a new DX model to start at $14900. They're even offering long loan terms. 84 months at 1.99%. Which is ridiculous for them. They know they've got an ugly duckling on their hands. This sort of pricing and generous payment terms are unheard of for them.

Videos seem to be the typical self congratulatory Acura bullshit.

I remember seeing something like the for the unveiling for the 2004 Acura TL. I had an invitation from a local dealer to see the car ( I bought an Integra from them years before ), and they had a video presentation before showing the car. This all feels very familiar.

That said, the ILX doesn't look too bad. Reminds me of the '04 TL face/ TSX look as well.

I honestly hadn't heard anything about this car before now.  All I can say is: "wow".  Does Honda seriously think somebody is going to pay Audi A3 2.0T money for a car with a naturally aspirated 2.0L and an outdated 5AT?

This is cheesy but it's a pretty standard trick these days. A shocking amount of PR fake journalism is repackaged and passed off as legit by local news channels. Media is living on food stamps, they'll gladly whore out their credibility to help pay the bills.

I have no idea. But I think it's working. I see them everywhere around here. Hyundai is offering the same loan terms too. Ford has 72 months. It's bonkers.

A friend wantd to get an outback when they first came out- they were willing to do 8yr loans, presumably (by him and me) to get the younger crowd which couldn't afford higher monthly payments.

He got a Hertz Tracer instead..

Yeah it seems familiar to me, too. Acura's current situation looks a lot like the last time they lost their way, back in the mid-late 90's.
