I like what I am seeing but need to see a side profile as soon as possible.

Wow, that looks great.  Mazda's new design language is very, very good, imo.

I am pretty sure the 6 is staying the same

The 4s are new but not for enthusiasts.

MX793

The front end looks kind of bulbous in profile.  I'm guessing pedestrian safety standards at play.

Mazda gets their V6s from Ford.  Unless they've designed their own (or decided to go elsewhere for motors), I also wouldn't expect any real change in the V6 motor.  Unless they opt to go the Hyundai route and not offer one at all.  IIRC, the Mazda6 in most world markets is 4-cylinder only (and North America's version is different from what's sold elsewhere).  If Mazda transitions the new 6 to be a true world car, a V6 may not even be in the cards.

C&D is reporting no V6 will be offered

However, the car is smaller than the current US Mazda 6 by 2.2 inches and will weigh about 250lbs less (less than the Euro or US version, it doesn't specify)

if that's true, there better be a turbo 4 coming

Raza

Yup, that looks awesome.  Probably the best looking sedan in the real-life midsize space right now.

Looks nice.  With a turbo 4 I'd hit one.

Nice, but I like Fusion better. This car still looks great, though.

Reporting none... saying none of the current 4 bangers are set up for terbow.  The Miata will supposedly get a 1.4L terbow 4, but it'll only make about 200hp.

Thats really bizzarre, I thought I was in the Accord thread. Something funky happened.

In any case, as far as how I feel about the Mazda6:

Looks damn good in AND out. Mazda needs to advertise the SHIT out of this thing. I like it!!!!

As far as the engines, I hear they are doing 2.0 and 2.5L 4s. I like SKYACTIV tech, but I am scared the 2.5 might be a little wheezy. Then again if they make good on their promise for low weight, this thing could be a dynamic bombshell. 190HP is plenty for ~3000lb.

Mazda was responsible for Ford's 4-cylinder engines when Ford owned a stake in them (the newer Duratec20, 23, and 25 are Mazda MZR engines).  I'm curious if they had a hand in developing the Ecoboost 4s or if Ford did those on their own.  I don't know how much they do with Ford anymore, but they might be able to partner up to get some Ecoboost 2.0Ts. Either that or they could drop the 2.3DISI from the CX-7 under the hood.

If Mazda dies I will be sad. I'd rather see Hyundai/Kia die.

Whatever happened to the 272hp turbo four from the old Mazdaspeed?

Everyone drives Hyundais now.  It's ridiculous how many of them I see on the road.  Half the kids coming out of school and getting jobs at my company are getting Hyundais.  Everyone has a Hyundai.  Hell, I'm pretty sure I have Hyundai somewhere.

Still used in the Speed3 last I checked, but it's a pretty coarse motor with a bit of turbo lag.  Not the greatest family sedan motor.  It was probably tuned to deliver power a little smoother in the CX-7, but it was also detuned down to ~240 hp, which really is plenty for a midsize car, but not really class competitive against the 270 hp+ motors of the 3.5L+ V6s (or turbo-4s) in much of the competition.

They hit all the right notes, even if they're boring.

TBR

The nav screen set back is kinda awkward, otherwise really like it.

Next year when this new 6 is on the market, I'm going to seek out everyone who bought an Accord or Camry, and kick them in the nuts.

I hope this stunner is a big sales winner for Mazda.

I imagine if Ford developed the Ecoboost V6, they did the 4 pot too.

If they do go boost, I think they need to go back to the drawing board and really max out the efficiency of it all. Dual injection, super small turbo, high compression.... you think about it, might as well make it diesel. The question is, how much power could they get out of it, and would said power be competitive?

sportyaccordy

Hyundai kind of dropped the ball. 1 Hyundai HP is like .72 actual HP, at least w/their early turbo motors.

We have a Hyundai, a Toyota, and a BMW in my family. I should be disappointed with how cliche we've managed to become, but whatever.

Shit. The "enthusiast" choice coming onto the scene without a V6 or turbo 4 is like the Lakers stepping onto the court without Kobe.

LOVE the new design language. What a great looking midsizer!

Evidence as to why I would ever buy one, ever. Hyundai = the new Toyota.  ;)
