Who cares, it's turbocharged anyways.

Every other report about the F80 mentions that there will be a manual. We?ll see but it makes no sense to not offer it when it?s available in the M5/M6.

I really doubt it won't have a manual.

Thank goodness it's turbocharged.

It's going to have a manual, and there will be no "M4" designation. And the V6 rumor was retarded. There have been quite a lot of unfounded BS rumors about this car for some reason.

Turbo was pretty much a forgone conclusion. With the amount of HP they want to make, V8 NA just doesn't make sense from a C02/CAFE perspective
Difficult takes a day, impossible takes a week.

V6 would have been progress. Turbo is better with DSG.

You're never explained this, outside of the "everyone else does it" excuse.

Less lag in shifting from when wastegate opens?

Since the shifts happen at WOT and are essentially seamless, there is no interuption in the exhaust flow spooling the turbo(s) nor is pressure vented on the intake side during the momentary closing of the throttle plate.

I believe that's why the 911 Turbo's 0-60 is faster than the stick's.  Still doesn't make me want a DSG.

My general rule:  When you get in this range of 400+ hp, a DSG makes so much more sense than a conventional stick.

In the BRZ, I'll take a stick every time.  In something as fast as the new M3 is going to be, DSG.

Nah, fuck that.  That shit makes sense on a track, but in the real world, your 400hp+ car is subject to the same bullshit that every other car is.  No point in a .000001 faster shift if you're just driving around town.  But if you enjoy physically using a manual transmission, as I do, and as I imagine you and many others here do as well, it can't be replaced.  It's a Kindle; extremely capable, very impressive, but it'll never have the same feel as reading a good book.

No point in 400+ HP on the street either by that logic. Especially considering average folks have no clue/training on how to handle such power.

Exactly.

Anyone on here who thinks they're going to be able to rip off heel toe downshifts in a car like this while flying around a track is delusional.

My bad guys, I was just talking about the "V6 would have been progress" comment, didn't mean to quote the DSG part.

Id like to think Im one of the manual transmissions biggest supporters, but once you get into cars like the M3 I don't consider an SMG/DSG a bad thing.

Has there always been four door versions of the M?

As posted, August 10, 2012, at start of thread, the video of the sedan variant being tested. Great to see the 4 door "family hauler" as an alternative to a "single guy's" coupe...

There was no E30 or E46 4 door M3. But now its arriving again and before the coupe version. Personally I prefer the sedan, I think it makes a lot more sense. There are arguably better two door sports cars than the M3 in its price range (albeit mostly two seaters). Sedans? Not so much.
