What do you guys think of the 2013 Fusion's styling?

People like what they like. Plus, maybe he'd want a Mustang and something else that isn't a Focus ST.

OMG! A sensible post I agree with!

~3500 lbs is pretty normal for a mid-size car these days, isn't it?

My E class was essentially a mid 90s design.  It was really heavy back then, but now the same weight is fine?  Man, cars are heavy.  Even my Z4 is pretty heavy, roughly 150 pounds heavier than a competing Boxster.

Suspension and chassis tuning have overcome weight for the most part.

Suspension and chassis tuning can do a lot, but not truly overcome the laws of physics.  It's like giving a fat guy a Segway.  Sure, he can get around faster without sweating, but that doesn't make him thin.

Never mind me, just joining the pile on.

If me simply coming in here and saying *I'm* not narrowminded makes people feel inadequate, then the problem is all in their own minds. ;)

I just don't understand how anyone could be proud of being narrowminded. I mean, let's be serious here for a moment. We all profess a love of cars. Machines that move us around from place to place. They all do this job slightly differently, look different while doing it, but I always thought  car fan would like and enjoy each of them for what they are, even if they had a preference for a particular one or two. It's how *I* was raised. I was raised the same way about food and women and music and art. It was ok and good to have a preference, but there was no reason to dislike other facets of that category in order to HAVE those preferences. And understanding and likeing a wide variety made the love of the preference better. It also made one more knowledgeable on the subject at hand, which was always a good thing.

As I've gotten older, it's become even more important to be open minded about the subjects I love. And it still shocks me when I come across someone who is proud to be the diametric opposite of that. Especially if I want to respect their opinion. I want to associate with people who know more, who are more experienced, and who have an even wider range of experiences. I thought a few people here were that way. But I'm finding more and more people who are proud to be compartmentalized and closed off, even at a young age. And that really does sadden me.

BTW, I don't take any of the attacks against me personal. I've seen the way you guys are fighting amongst each other more and more these days even if I'm not posting, so I know it's not me.

Funny, I went the opposite direction.  Had a Mercedes, and now I'm turned off on big luxury sedans.  I'm tired of big, fat luxury cars that think they know better than I do.  Sure, the A4 or 3 series are interesting, but other than that, it's very hard to justify their added expense over something like a GTI.  VW is making it harder to buy one of their cars now with the new Jetta and Passat, but the Golf is still great.

Although, most compact and midsize sedans, luxury or mainstream, have some fatal flaw that makes me not want to buy one.  Not much appeals to me that's on the market anymore.
+1

Don't necessarily agree with the "know better than you" thing but I just like to keep equipment + metal limited to what I actually use. I don't want anything on the car that will interfere with that. Big luxury sedans generally carry about 1000lb more weight that I find acceptable in a street car, and they have a bunch of equipment I could care less about. Give me good tunes and a playful engine + chassis... maybe navigation on the level of my phone? I'm good.

As far as the Fusion, the design is OK but it looks a bit bloated and is a little too heavy. Focus is a much better fit for me, outside of the back seat which I hear is a little tight.

Overall the only new mainstreamers I would spend money on... I think are just the Fiesta, Fit and Focus. Maybe the Yaris. Like you said everything else has some fatal flaw.

Holy shit Chris.  You need to read my posts again and then read your own.  You obviously have a reading comprehension problem.  It's not me being narrowminded.  It's called having a car for each need that we have.   If I was so narrowminded,  I would never have owned 90% of the vehicles I have.

I have a question Chris.  Why do you even come to this site?  In the last few months you have barely posted, but when you do it's just to tell us how narrow minded we are.  Does it make you feel better about yourself to tell everyone how much better you are?  I mean, you are so open minded you have become narrow minded.  You no longer have any time or patience for anyone that doesn't have the exact same open mindedness as yourself.  That's as bad as the guy who strictly likes BMW and nothing else.  My post had absolutely nothing to do with being narrow minded or even not liking another car.  I loved my SVT Focus.  I loved every second of my 4 and a half years with it.  I cried when the new owner drove it away.  You're damn right I was offended by your comment that I was being narrow minded, because you know my car ownership history and you know better.  I love the new Focus ST, but if I have a Mustang GT or Boss 302, I will have no desire to own a car I have no need for...or room for.  I even put the disclaimer "I have also learned to never say never", but you ignored that along with ignoring my vehicle ownership history.  The only person being narrow minded in this thread is you.  You are being so marrow minded in your desire to be open minded that you failed to comprehend what I ACTUALLY wrote.

AutobahnSHO

Narrowmindedness has its advantages- it's called Specialization.
I'd much rather find a shop that deals with one particular car and are experts at it than some klutz who 'can fix anything' but doesn't know all the quirks about a particular line or model.

It's like the SHO nuts. They REALLY know those cars. But probably not much about most others...........

Nothing wrong with it, in my opinion- as long as they do remember there ARE other cars out there, and many of them are better!

I think you're misreading someone's lack of interest in owning a certain car as a lack of respect for it. Most people will like a lot of cars and actually own relatively few.

Not at all.  I hate it.  The local Toyota dealership has a parking lot next to the Ford dealership, and the Camry especially in SE trim looks fw2083659276308rg b2 rcg2p4ntbg02cp498yc times better tan the Fusion.

I don't think the Camry looks all that great, either. IMO, the only good looking Midsizer is the Optima. The rest all look odd.

Camry looks Asian generic as usual. At least Ford is doing something different, and while controversial and unconventional, I find it to be very attractive. But I agree that the Optima is the nicest looking mainstream midsize car sold today overall.

The worst thing I can say about the Camry is it's bland, but in up level trims it looks decent. I've seen quite a few new Fusions and they all look bad.
