I've been hypermiling the shit out of this tank, and now my dad took the car to work. He gets fucking terrible MPG in his MDX. He probably just destroyed all my hard work.

It's funny, I try to get my dad to drive my car as much as I can (partially because he bought the fucking thing, he should enjoy it. Partially because I want him to start liking fun cars so he'll get a midlife crisis mobile.). He won't touch it, though. He must have driven a grand total of 15 miles in the car.

My dad claims he hates my car because it's noisy and cramped but then wants to use it all the time.

He also manages to get 16 mpg from the MDX, whereas I can get over 20 (according to the trip computer) easily, without having to resort to driving extra slow. He accelerates like crazy and brakes at the very last minute.

He's going to India soon for two weeks so I guess I can see what I can squeeze out of one tank when he's gone.

It's the exact opposite in my house. My dad's getting like 25 and change out of his 5er. Whenever I use his car, he warns me not to bring that figure down.

I think that the air:fuel ratio should actually lean out to get the engine to warm up faster.

You want a rich fuel mixture to warm up quickly (see: choke on a carb)

Hmm, that's weird. I was just basing that off of nitro RC's, where you want to lean the mixture out, or else the engine will never warm up and the plug will stop glowing.

I always thought the choke on a carb limited fuel supply.

I think on the scale of an RC car the added fuel would act as a coolant and cause the glow plug to fail to ignite the charge.

The choke on a car engine opens the carb up and allows more fuel to enter the engine in order to facilitate starting in the first place. Too lean and the mixture would never ignite.

44-45 MPG (imperial) for me, I think that's about 37 US MPG?  I think these things are all so sensitive to climate, driving style and traffic levels that it's almost pointless to compare to other people.

15.4 this week. All city driving with 9K red line for first gear and sometimes second.

Wow I have logged 14,000+ miles on fuelly so far. Stopped using it for a period of time when I didn't save receipts, And I realized I didn't enter a couple of partial fillups I did earlier this month and at other times.

Does the RX8 require premium?

It's not 100% required and theres much debate on that one with RX people too. I run it for the fuck of it.

Next week I'll drive to work on the interstate with as little city driving as I can and see if I can get it past 24. I've done it in the past.

28.8 last tank. Seems this car loves being at 3500-4000 rpm on the highway. Drove 200 miles on Monday, mostly at 65-70 mph with about an hours worth of sitting in traffic in San Francisco. I also did some 0-60 launches and did not try to conserve gas at all.

My car likes 3000rpm on the highway.  Sadly that's 25mph over.

Harley doesn't have a tach, but it likes going about 9000 RPM, I think, at 60 MPH. It gets 40 MPG

I'm at 20.8 mpg right now according to the onboard computer. That's with a lot of short distance drives and drifting around corners.

I've been driving to my friend's apartment to take care of his dog.  It's only like 5-6 blocks.  I walk there when I have time, but in the fucking freezing cold and when the sidewalks are covered in snow and ice, I prefer to drive it.  Engine doesn't even get close to warming up.

I idle a lot for warming the car up at work.
