Hey, nobody said anything about about a budget.  If you're going to do it, may as well do it right, dammit!

I like the G body, there's loads of aftermarket support and it can be made fast in both V8 and V6 T type trim.

I still am going to side with the T-bird; the Lebaron has the K-car underneath in some roundabout way, and the G-body doesn't seem as sophisticated and engineered as the T-bird was.

The rest seems like too different from what the thread was about.....Aston Martin? Really?

It's a stretch, I'll admit, but I wanted to expand the selection beyond the usual suspects.

Besides, what is a "Personal Luxury Coupe", exactly?  Coupe = two doors and four (maybe five?) seats, right?  And what could be more luxurious than an Aston?

The idea was to make the unenviable decision among equally undesirable cars, which I understand to be the point of the Jalopy forum. Also note that I left out the word "Luxury" from the thread title ;)

Maserati Biturbo! So gorgeous!

I have a client with the "last Biturbo", the Ghibli II. Looks exactly like this but with different rims.

I'm begging him if I can shoot this baby this year. He's also got two Maserati Quattroporte IVs: the V6 and the V8.

I was going to say that Aston is as good looking now as when it first came out, but that's just not true.  It gets better looking everyday.

Indeed.

I went with the Maserati just so I can say I have a Maserati.

These are, largely, GT cars, not Personal Luxury Cars.  A personal luxury car puts styling and luxury appointments over performance.

Well, obviously Madman doesn't get it...

And I guess I'm the only one who chose the LeBaron.

For '87 I'd certainly have one of those over any of the GM G-bodies (barring the hotted-up Buicks, of course); they were archaic by comparison. The TC is essentially the same thing, just made very expensively in Italy. The TC is probably the most luxurious of these cars but was also far and away the most expensive.

The Cougar is a geezer-boat, so that's out.

The only true competition for my dollar would be between the LeBaron and the Thunderbird. The Thunderbird would be very compelling in V8-powered 'Sport' trim or the Turbo Coupe.

Hm... Now that I think about it, long after having voted, I'd rather have the Thunderbird. :\

Madman

I can assure you I do "get it".  I'm just engaging in a bit of "outside the box" thinking.

And that LeBaron, especially in convertible guise, was a pretty sharp looking car in it's day.  I'll take one of those massively torque-steerring turbo ones for maximum hilarity!

I voted Monte Carlo because it's the best looking one here....which says a lot.  Kill me if my life ever actually requires me to make this decision.
