A stripper BMW is how I'd prefer mine. After having messed around with those fancy iDrive+nav radios and whatnot, I honestly prefer a simple radio with an AUX jack and no superfluous toys (except for HIDs and heated seats, both of which are awesome. I'd take the heated seats before the HIDs though). I'd just want that chassis, that motor (moreso when the I6 was around), a 6MT and RWD.

Looking at this from a midlevel marketing dude's perspective, I can see the appeal of a stripper BMW *only* at the turn of a new generation. There's no cheap way to get the up-to-date looks and badge for cheap otherwise.

I don't see the appeal of a stripper BMW. I'd prefer an off-lease CPO model loaded up with options. In other words, an E90 335i with all the goodies + 6 year, 100k mile warranty is more appealing to me than a stripper, but new F10.

Ergo, stripper BMWs and the like have sold poorly in the US. For German luxury marques the lease rates are so high (and hence, a ginormous lease return inventory) and the depreciation so much.

I actually really like iDrive (and wish I had it, though it's not worth what they charge for it), though I'd rather have cloth seats than my leatherette ones.

I love that I don't have iDrive.

I'm driving a stripper BMW.

When my sister bought it she just paid extra for the A/T, sunroof, heated seats and the radio and some nicer wheels. That's it. I don't use the sunroof much.

It's not really a stripped BMW.  It's a fairly well equipped model, given that it has a sunroof, heated seats, nicer radio, and nicer wheels.  It's pretty much the 1er I'd buy.

Well yes. But it also features that I use, so that's what I happy about. If it was fully-loaded with stuff that I didn't need...I don't like that.

If I could remove thing it's the sunroof simply because I rarely use it.

I use mine all the time.  Does yours have the HID headlamps?

Nope. No Xenon lights. Standard halogen lights. They're ok.

I do prefer Xenons, though. I love driving my dads E350 CGI at night with the powerful Xenon lights that also turn with the steering wheel. Awesome stuff!

My car has manual seats, manual air conditioning, and a manual transmission.  The only option is the sport pack (unless the heated seats were also an option).  I don't even have a sunroof.  And, your car has four seats.  I don't even have that many.  I only have two.

The rear seats are pretty much useless when I am driving the car as the front seat is slid back 90% of the way leaving only room for someone to sit behind me who has had both his legs amputated at knee-level.  :tounge:

Mine has manual seats, too. I like them more than power seats honestly.

And sunroofs FTMFW. I use mine all the time (but that was standard on the 3er here)

I vastly prefer manual seats. They adjust so much more quickly.

Hmm. I suppose I could rock a 420i convertible if they make one. Sure, it'll be more expensive than a Mustang GT, but at least insurance will be cheaper...:mask:

Very unlikely that the coupe will get this engine IMO.

You're probably right. I bet there'll be a 220i convertible, though I really can't imagine choosing it over a droptop pony car.

But the 2 series wont be that expensive, so you would be looking at least at a 228i. And there is an M235i coming that if the reviews of the M135i are anything to go by will be a fantastic car.

But the Corolla is faster to 60 and still $ 50K cheaper!

That's great news for Canada.

But didn't BMW announce that America will also be getting some 3er diesels this year?

It's been stupid for BMW to refuse to sell an entry 3er model for the past decade or more. The 318i sold like crazy here. I still see them on the road almost every day.

The E30 318 sold well, can't say I've seen a lot of E36 318s in proportion to the 325/328 of that generation.
