It's really getting that way.  Modern styling because of crash regs, weight because of crash regs, shit like that makes it less pleasurable to buy a new car.  Plus, new car prices are insane.
For me it's the prices.  Especially since my taste in cars is getting more and more expensive all the time that I would rather buy a 2 or 3 year old car at 50-60% of the sticker price.  I will let somebody else take the initial depreciation hit.

Submariner

It should be attractive, but the same ill-proportions that plague the XTS have infected this car too.  It looks like those "radical" hot wheels they used to have when I was a child - real cars that looked like their front and rear ends got a trash compactor treatment.

Oh, and 60K for a car with a Volt chassis and powertrain?  LOL

How much is this going to cost?  60K?  Fuck that shit man.  Used cars forever!

I will never buy a new car again.

I haven't bought new since 2007.  Everything I have bought since then has been used.

The Converj is not RWD, nor will it ever be. It has probably the best FWD proportions of any car in the past 15 years.

Also, the Volt's powertrain is pretty great.

You know what's a better powertrain?

CTS-V.

A gorgeous example of automobile design.

Even the real world pics do not disappoint:

Would buy one in a minute, if I could afford it.

Love the Volt powertrain.

Raza

Wow, it looks really goofy from that angle.  The glasshouse extends too far forward.

The bottom one is the concept.

Oops, you are right, didn't look at the date. This pic isn't quite from the same angle, but still, I would buy this car.

CJ

I would not.  It's ugly.

At 60K, I'd much rather just get a Tesla S.

I think it's friggin gorgeous. Best looking Caddy to date. And I love that it's got the Volt's powertrain.  Much better choice to put the expensive tech in an expensive brand rather than the Volt trying to be a halo car for Chevy (even though I'm probably going to buy a Volt).

Are you really going to buy one? I have considered buying an electric car (or mostly electric) but I probably won't buy another car fr 4-5 years. I think the Tesla cars look nicer, but the GM cars have the advantage of using gas in an emergency.

yeah, I can lease a Volt for about the same monthly money as the Mustang or the MINI, so one of them is going to get replaced. My wife and I both like the Volt, but she always ends up with the practical cars while I get the fun cars, and she says she really wants to own the fun car for once, so I may sell the Mustang and get the Volt, while she replaces the MINI when the lease is up with a fun convertible. (and since she does like the MINI, it may be a Cooper S convertible).

It helps that the Volt comes in the same blue as the Mustang...

Don't want to wait for the ELR?

ChrisV

Id' wait if I know that the ELR would be leasable for $300-350 a month. But I also need at least one car with 4 doors, which is why the Volt (right now, the two cars I have that are running are two door cars with minimal back seat ingress/egress and I tend to carry 3-4 people at least twice a week).

The Volt gets me a commuter that uses basiclaly no fuel on my commute, has the capablity of carrying 3-4 people in a pinch with easier ingress/egress than the Mustang or MINI, and has a useful hatch area, while also being able to make the run up to central CT monthly as needed (something a pure EV woudl't do). I'd love to have an ELR as my own personal commuter, but I think the pricetag is a bit high for me in that role.

ChrisV

Well, not getting the Volt just yet. With the options I want and TTL rolled in, the lease price jumps from $299 a month to over 400 a month. But it was quite nice to drive. THis is the one I drove today:
