~Fuck it, still not going to do it. Sticking it out with the Yaris. Not going to bother until I've actually reached a decision to sell or keep~

I'm begrudgingly making this thread, because I like my Yaris. However, my Yaris will not let me live the life I want to; school, ect. Insurance is more than my car payment, and although repairs have been minimal, if you've read the religion thread I have to become financially independent, and FAST.

Criteria

- Manual Transmission

- Small SUV, Hatchback, Wagon preferred, not necessary

- Reliable (it will need to last me for an unknown amount of time without throwing money at it)

- Under $3500USD

Just get that CRV you posted.

Yes. Pack up the Yaris and go. Apply to another school, get a job in the meantime, meet and get to know people with common interests.

I can't afford to move out while I pay so much for insurance. I have to have high insurance because my car is financed. I bought this car because my parents would rather finance a car than finance schooling.

I can't even financially see straight.

Stop making excuses. Cancel the insurance, pack up the car, and get out of there.

I cant drive with no insurance.

Like I said somewhere else, get out using savings, then sell Yaris to get rid of that monthly expense, then buy a beater that's been inspected by a mechanic, then sort the rest out.

Are things different in Canada? Driving without insurance, they'd revoke my license if I got pulled over in a traffic stop.

I have tried to plan, but its hard to undo twenty years of indoctrination. Their mentality is poverty seeking and nevwr plan for the future. The lesson in today's meeting is talking about how money and education does not lead to success and striving for either is vanity and ruins relationship with God.

Same here, but fucking car insurance would not keep me from escaping oppression and living my life as a free man.

Don't get pulled over.

GoCougs

Wouldn't recommend the no insurance thing. Getting a big ticket or losing a license pales in comparison to having no insurance and causing a wreck. Though unlikely wrecks literally happen a millions times a day, and would make Kevin's situation a whole lot worse. He needs to come up with some goals, develop a realistic plan/schedule, and then make it happen.

Raza

No insurance is serious, and if he has a gap in coverage, it will drive up his rates in the future.  Not a good idea.  Better to sell the car and get something that's a lot cheaper to purchase and insure.

I'd have to agree. Sounds like a great movie idea, but that could end very badly IRL.

If things were moral WRT infrastructure in the US, ALL roads would be privatized, and highly likely mandatory insurance would be a requirement. So, it's never a good idea to have government doing or demanding much of anything, with mandatory insurance laws though it's an approximation of how Things Should Be.

Guys give me a fucking break. Car insurance is keeping him from escaping a bad situation? Grow some fucking balls, pack the car, and leave.

Yeah, except that it's still terrible advice. He pays something like $200/mo and if he cancels it and gets in trouble (ticket/accident) he's even more fucked than he originally was. It's honestly the last thing he should be doing.

Whatever. Pay the insurance, keep the car, stay in the cult, lie about who you are, and shut up about it.

I think the point of this thread was to sell his car and get something affordable with cheaper insurance so he can move out...
