Official: 2014 Chevrolet SS!

My "Corvette" perhaps! Not quite as stunning as I had hoped but not gaudy either. The interior is stellar. Need to take a closer look. Just glanced at the pics and posted. Certainly not a Malibu and no Impala -- two major pluses.

Payman

No mention of a manual, but I hope they offer it. Yes, great interior, but it's funny this 4 door sedan had a flat-bottom wheel and the Corvette doesn't.

Looks awesome. I agree with 2o6 though, don't think anyone will buy it.

Looks nice and the interior materials feel great.  Unlike the G8 this car is actually sold as a police car so it might not need huge sales on the consumer side.  Why does Atomic never post pics!

MX793

I find the styling kind of... blah.  The front and rear end styling is too soft.  Looks like a larger Cruz.  For some reason, I actually see hints of the previous Chrysler Sebring in the headlamp and tail lamp shapes.

This car is special order only.  They only expect around 1500 orders or so.

And no manual.  You need to live in aussie land for that.

Would the manual from the C6 work?

This will be a great car to look for off-lease in a few years. Depreciation should be terrific.

Maybe?

Last I knew, Corvettes had rear mounted transmissions.

At those sales numbers, and since fleet cars aren't manual, it really didn't make sense to offer it. Shame, but I understand it.

Really? I'd guess it'll be closer to $50k.

Yeah, with such limited numbers, I image dealer markup will be high like it was with the G8.

Yeah, I understand it too. I shouldn't complain about it not having a manual since I'm never going to buy one, but it'd still be nice to see.

I was just thinking they'd price it like that since it'd compete in price with BMW 535i's and the V6 Audi A6's.

Corvettes have a rear trans axle.

But they still used the T56... I wonder if it was just redesigned to be mounted in the back.

Oh my bad thx.

I have no idea how the Corvette can use the same model transmission as front mounted applications, yet rear mount it.  Seems like the engineering needed to mount it in the rear would create a new model transmission.

I've done some light googling and haven't come up with anything.  Maybe Cougs/MX/Soup/MrH/ChrisV can shed some light.

Despite what looks like an AMG lower front fascia integrated with Ford's trapezoid grille opening from the Taurus and Mitsubishi's black bar going through that grille opening.... I like it.

Not really hard to do when the bellhousing isn't integral to the gearbox.  Instead of bolting straight to the bellhousing, they put a torque tube (which has the driveshaft inside) between the bellhousing and the front of the transmission, and then bolt the back of the transmission straight up to the differential.  Likely with a spline coupler instead of a U-joint that is typically mounted to the transmission output (and differential input).  Although I have not ruled out that Tremec may offer a couple of slightly different housing packages with the same basic internals and markets the entire family as "TR6060".

I'd also point out that the TR6060 is also offered with a few different gear ratio sets depending on application.  Different ratios means different parts inside, so the TR6060 in a CTS-V isn't technically the exact same transmission as in the Camaro SS, and neither are the same as what's in the GT500.

If it's a special order only car I hope the dealers have access to a demo car for consumers to drive if they are interested.

I like the styling of The G8 better but the Interior of the SS is a HUGE improvement!
