Other comments from German car owners on VW Vortex:

"It makes the E look completely anonymous, and it makes the 5 look like a flaccid, unfocused blob."

"This car takes the crown from the E class as far as looking "teutonic". The refresh on the E has it looking very organic/Japanese. Cadillac's greenhouse combined with the sculpting makes the CTS look like the E class done right."

"Don't kid yourself for a second that I won't seriously consider it when I replace my E60 550i."

"It absolutely destroys everything else in the class, aesthetically. It's stunning whether you look at the details or the whole design - it's the most nearly perfect design I've ever seen out of Cadillac besides maybe the Ciel show car."

"And single handedly America destroys the communist agenda. Bangle surfacing is no longer the future of automotive design. Hurrah. Pronounced, classy, familiar but unique. The eagle motif on the head on view seems planned. I will buy one, and/or make other people buy one."

"I like this a lot. I like the rear, too. The two character lines on the flanks merge together and play off each other nicely. I like that the upper character line makes for a strong flank, and it wraps effortlessly into the LED strips in the tail lights. Those tail lights are a nice nod to tradition without looking retro. I like the sharp crease on the rear of the c-pillar. The exhaust outlets look nice with the chrome strip joining the two of them. The crease keeps the butt from looking to bulbous. They did a really good job on what is usually the hardest part of a car to finish."

"To me it just oozes elegance and luxury. I'm sure I'll catch heat for this, but I think this is Cadillac's E39 - it's a timeless design that people will be admiring for decades."

With tens of thousands of members, the overwhelming majority believe that the CTS is perhaps the best looking sedan on the market, or at least one of the top couple.

Once it's released, it'll be the same-old same-old kvetching about massive panel gaps, GMness, and H&H.

And soft-touch internal materials and steering feel...

I think this will be a major success for Cadillac. I do have issues with some of it, especially parts of the interior, but it looks nice.

It will never look timeless like the E34 (E39 is kind of fat looking to me) IMO, but man this thing will look wild as a V

Didn't even think of that.

The new CTS is miles ahead of Lincoln.  Either do something Ford or throw in the towel.

IMO Lincoln alone shows that Mulally doesn't know what he is doing and that by and large Ford "survived" not of his doing.

I read somewhere that Mulally wanted to kill Lincoln along with Mercury but Bill Ford and Ford's Board of Directors overruled his decision.

Ford should have kept either Volvo or Jaguar/Land-Rover and put Lincoln out to pasture.  Lincoln has very little brand equity left in North America and absolutely none whatsoever outside North America.  With a trashed reputation and zero export potential, I can't see any sound business argument for keeping Lincoln alive.

5.0L Coyote engine would've been an awesome send-off for the Town Car.

Back on topic, specs released on the Caddy website for the new CTS. Base model weighs in at 3,616 lbs. This is about as much as my car weighs sporting the dub rimz. 0-60 ranges from 6.4 seconds with the 2.0T AWD, to 4.6 seconds with the twin-turbo "V-Sport" model. MPG ranges from 19/30 with the 2.0T RWD, to 17/25 with the V-Sport. My car gets the same mpg as the 420-hp V-Sport :mask:

I've been back home for the past few days, and I can't turn my neck without spotting an E-Class or a 5-series. I really hope this works out for Cadillac.

Wow. Sign me up. I was afraid it was going to be bland and tepid, but this looks great.

As for the coupe, I rented one for nine days and drove from Vegas to Utah, and the visibility was fine. I would consider buying a used one.

They should really retro design some of those 1970s Town Cars and Continentals and they'll have a chance with people who value design H&H.

All current Lincolns are so bland and characterless.

Rear and rear 3/4 visibility were fine on the coupe?  I find that very hard to believe.

Sure, if your point of reference is the Camaro, then it's great....

I think it looks great but the large rear overhang is bugging me.

In terms of overhangs IMO it looks very similar to the RR Phantom, especially the short blunt front:

It depends on the angle I guess, but the rear window is not tiny; it's just at a pretty severe tilt. It's also pretty much right behind your head. I had no problem with it. However, I wouldn't want to have to spend any serious time in the back seat.

Camaro visibility isn't even that bad. Pretty comparable to my Dad's '71, which is fine. Y'all are just pussies.

It's definitely easier to see out of a 2nd gen Camaro than the new Camaro - doesn't not make the new Camaro best in class though and what with the Z28 on tap one of the best performance brands today ;). But I agree - anyone who drones on about "visibility" should in the least have their man credentials audited - it's right up there with complaining about cup holders and "soft touch" interior materials.
