Keep hope alive. My 8 has almost 50K on it and by the time these things come out it will have almost 100K. And we all know I'll need three motors by then so I'll need something to buy! This is the only thing coming out that I even give a poo about.

Looking closer at this and I think most of all my hopes will be squashed with the production version... no way subaru can pull off those front and rear overhangs that make it look so good with their awd system.

I really like the BRZ. I very happy they make it. But I'm not sure it's for me.

I don't like the Bangle Butt and the tiny rear window. I wish they'd just get rid of some of the side surfacing or tone it down a bit, make the belt line straight and cut off that weird bangle 7 series ass thing at the top of the trunk.

The actual Bangle butt looks fine to me, but the lead up to it (upper quarter panels) is all messed up. Too many creases and body lines.

I think the BRZ is overall a better package, though a "pure" Subie with AWD is nice too. If they do as nice a job with the interior and creature comforts in this as they did with the BRZ, a lot of people are going to have a tough time making a choice.

Unlike the last couple of generations of Impreza (and WRX), this one actually looks like it was designed to be a sedan rather than a hatchback design converted to a sedan.  It looks all the better for it.

He's saying there's no way they can keep that small of a front overhang while also having AWD. AWD has the same problems as FWD with proportions. The front wheel is usually pushed back near the leading edge of the front door and the front overhang is pretty huge so they can fit all the FWD stuff in there.

I hear you... my car will br 10 years old this summer.  Still love it, but its getting old.

The only thing that has caught my eye to date is the new 335i with MSport package... price though means I would need to wait a few years and snag a CPO

Not all AWD systems require large overhangs.  Subaru's does (as does Audi's and some others) because it's ultimately built around a FWD layout.  Before they went 100% AWD in the early to mid 90s, you could get 2WD Subies and they were FWD.  AWD BMW 3 series or Infiniti Gs don't have the same large front overhangs of FWD based cars.

Yeah, that's what I meant. IIRC the BMW layout is just an FR transmission behind the engine with a transfer case mounted between it and the driveshaft with another driveshaft going to the front whereas the Subaru version is a FWD transmission under the engine with a transfer case attached to it going to the back.

I can't see Subaru redesigning their entire AWD system just to get the proportions like the WRX show car...

Maybe it's a more monumental change for their performance cars in the future?  I mean, the BRZ existed because they were playing with getting the boxer engine as low and as far back in a Legacy as they could.

Seems pretty extreme to design a new transfer case and transmission (at the very least) for their halo/rally cars. Speaking of pricing, a WRX with 275+ hp and a true 6 speed manual for under $30k would be awesome. That's pretty much EvoX territory. The STI would be untouchable in that segment.

They could raise the hoodline to buy themselves more space.  The BRZ's problem is that the hood is so low, there's not a lot of vertical space (particularly when you factor in the air space requirements for pedestrian safety).  The engine bay otherwise isn't that small.
