2014 Ford Escort Concept at The 2013 Shanghai International Auto Show

(Motoroids) As if the EcoSport compact SUV wasn't potent enough to make rival car manufacturers really worried, American auto maker Ford Motor Co. has come up with the new Ford Escort concept at the Auto Shanghai 2013. It may be noted that the Escort is one of the most successful brands of sedans and has been thru several model updates.

The new Escort concept makes its debut at the 2013 Shanghai auto show owing to Ford expecting 70 percent of its growth in the next 10 years to come from its Asia Pacific and African region.

The new Escort is Ford's second concept car of this year, the first being the Atlas Concept that we saw at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in January a few days back.

The all new Ford Escort concept is a "compact sedan" but is being touted as a spacious family car with enough space for five. Ford says that the new car has been developed around 'Quality green safe technology'. The car has been designed and developed in China and will be first launched in China. The target audience for the new car is a young and modern Chinese family.

Ford has stated that they will have 5 new manufacturing plants in China by the end of 2015. Ford has further said that they expect the production to double up to as much as 1.2 million units by 2015. This is not all as Ford also plans to launch as many as fifteen new cars in China by 2015.

Wow, I actually like that.

I do and I don't. I like its profile. Not so certain about the shrunken Fusion grille on it. The "borrowed grille" works on the Fusion but to see it expanded beyond one signature product kinda cheapens the A.M./Jaguar-inspired front-end for Ford.

A LOOK AHEAD: 2015 FORD FOCUS FIVE DOOR HATCHBACK

If this Ford Focus redesign is true to form, the Aston Martin look will likely make its way to nearly* every Ford car model, if not all and expand for some time now...

Where the hell is the Escort going to be in their lineup?  Wasn't it replaced by the Focus after they didn't go with my name, the Fescort?

So maybe the "F" name motif is a bit blah by now, but Escort is a bad name.  It reminds me of a watch company that was thinking of putting out a watch called the "Pearl Diver".  I actually told the guy "Look this up on Urban Dictionary" and he changed the name.

They might as well go all the way and call it the Ford Whore.

Many automakers in China have several compacys, one expensive one cheap. VW sells the Jetta, but also sells the cheaper but similarly sized Bora and Lavida.

I guess not in first world markets then.  I suppose it makes sense.

I think the styling of this is far neater than the current Focus, which I think is a mess outside and in............ and they need to do far more than just slap the Aston grille onj the facelift to make it look "classy" which is what I believe Ford aspires to. But what this concept will be like dynamically is far from clear at present..........

Escort was VERY popular in Europe too.

I like this look- and it looks quite similar to the the Dodge Dart, not a bad thing.

Aston Martin is now fucked with every Ford having that nose.

I don't like it in this application. It looks ok on the Fusion but it's too big of a mouth on thie Escort.

I remember when Jeep brought Hummer to court over its trademark 7-slot grille and lost. With Ford and A.M., there appears to be a real infringement, IMO.

The squared off "jaw" of the MY13 Taurus is unique enough but the built to Aston Martin spec's grille of the '13 Fusion is a complete knockoff. Now the trickle down theory?

That's not a Mustang concept.
While not directly, most insider reports have said the MY15 will borrow heavily from the EVOS concept, making it essentially a Mustang concept of sorts...
