Why the aversion to eBay?  While I didn't buy my car on eBay, I found it through an eBay listing.

Too much bull involved.  I don't and won't do pay pal.  I want to look the seller in the eye and touch, see and smell what I'm buying.

I'm with you there.  In my case, the car was only 45 minutes away at a used car specialty shop.  Cars are little too involved for me to buy sight unseen.

I think it's something like a $500 deposit that's refundable.

Absolutely. If I told my boys I met my girlfriend online, it would def be something of a joke.

It gets more accepted as you get older.  Lots of people meet their significant others in college when it's easy.  When you get older, it gets a lot more difficult.  You get more set in your ways and a lot pickier because of that, and you have less time to spend meeting people and attempting to maintain those relationships.

Unless the owner calls me to tell it sold this afternoon We are going to look at a 2004 XK8 tomorrow.  Exterior is Quartz, interior is Ivory.  Looks to be very clean, 58,000 actual miles.  And it's less than 200 miles away.  The owner has a complete maintenance history and all the paperwork.

I would never buy a car without looking it over and taking it for a drive. I'd buy one on-line after I flew out and looked at it.
