Thanks for pointing that out.  I haven't had the time to research tires yet and you post prompted me to do so.

The Bridgestones wouldn't have been my first choice If I were buying tires, but they were on the car and have a decent amount of tread left so they are not subject to immediate replacement, maybe early next year.  they do make decent rim protecters.

If I were replacing them today I'd likely go with General Altimax HPs or General G-Max tires.  I've got General HPs on the Mazda6 and they are quite good, and I see Tire Rack has the General G-Max tires on sale just now.  Both of the Generals are pretty highly rated on Tire Rack's website.

What's really odd is that the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus is very highly rated and costs about 20% less than the EL400s, which are poorly rated on Tire Rack's site. Plus they are low rolling resistance and have quite a high treadwear number.  Looking at a comparison test on Tire Rack's site it appears the Bridgestone Serenity is about equal to the Conti.

Bottom line:  Rest assured the replacements will be significantly better than what's on the car now.

Turanzas are all pretty much garbage.  Bridgestone makes really great tires, but they're all part of the Potenza line.

Continental DWSs are another great all weather tire.  I'm getting DWs (summer only) for my Z4.

I have DW's. Good for the street, but not good on track. Definitely getting extreme summer tires next time.

Nice.  I don't track, so that's of no concern to me.

My only worry is steering feel, moving from ultra stiff RFTs to GFTs (go-flat tires).

To be honest, the DW's have a softer sidewall and I felt like the steering feel was decreased a bit. It feels fine now, so I don't know if that's due to the tires breaking in or if I just got used to it.

I have Turanzas on the G37 and I'm doing my best to wear them out so I can buy better tires.

I'm tearing up. You're such a good person.

Better tires for everyone!

Byteme

Ordered new tires from Tire Rack today.  I should have them Friday.  General Altamax HP.  On sale at Tire Rack and there is a factory rebate.  I've had them on the Mazda 6 for 25,000 miles and really like them.

As a bonus the rim protectors, the Bridgestone Turanza's, I'm replacing have about half their tread left.  I'm selling them to a used tire dealer for the cost of mounting and balancing the new tires.   So I essentially get mounting and balancing for free and avoid a tire disposal fee.
