I don't really care about this segment, but that looks good.

It's like a smaller Pathfinder that looks 74x worse.

2o6

I think its pleasant enough, delightfully inoffensive.

CALL_911

Looks better than the current 'sorority special' edition.

They need to ape the Evoque. This amorphous "90s organic" shit is not cutting it. Nissan's whole design language right now is awful.

this is a very smart move by nissan.  there are not that many 7 passenger suvs on the market at that price point (mid $20s).  most get into the $30s.

there are a lot of people who want three rows of seats occasionally.  typical example would be a family of four and one set of grandparents come over for a few days.

at a higher price point this is what lexus loses with the rx and why many people choose the mdx over the rx.

here you have a vehicle which is much smaller and easier to maneuver and drive (the rogue) which can now handle 2 more passengers in a pinch.  and its fairly cheap.  and it looks ok.

yeah, yeah, yeah... that whole minivan argument plays out in this forum again and again.  usually by posters who aren't in the minivan buying demographic.  there's a large segment of the population in the US that don't want em.  i'm part of that population.  they look lame.  yeah, we choose style over functionality.  get over it :)

You are making way too much sense veeman.

ifcar

I'm going to be cautiously optimistic that Nissan has learned from the previous generations of the Hyundai Santa Fe and Toyota RAV4 that people won't buy a car with a third row that's too tiny. Both of those cars ended up having their third row discontinued over lack of interest, because they were just too small to be of any use.

But there are lots of other things also going for the Rogue, especially considering how well the 2008-era car has still been selling. Fresh but inoffensive looks, better gas mileage, more tech, presumably better safety scores and refinement... So I wouldn't count on seven-passenger seating being critical to this car's success or failure.

veeman

i agree ifcar.  this is not a good vehicle if you're going to be going on long or frequent trips using the third row for passengers.  You need a bigger SUV then or minivan.  it's good for occasional short trips where you can bring someone else along to your kid's soccer game, the mall, or a restaurant.

the rav4 limited with V6 was pricey.  It was over 30 grand.  i made a mistake buying one back in 2006.  at that price i might as well have gotten a larger more comfortable suv.  i don't know if you could get the third row option on the 4 cylinder models but i remember you didn't see very many of them on the lot.  i don't think toyota even produced that many of them.

Ugly? Looks like a pretty solid, inoffensive design.

Jukes are ugly. This is just a normal CUV.

Jukes are beyond ugly.  It is hideous, disgusting, and a crime against those with sight.  So yes, if that is your yardstick, this thing is so good looking I want to fuck it.

I find the standards of "inoffensive" are getting more and more lax.

Kind of. That's what happens when the market is flooded with Jukes and 500Ls and beak noses and G37s.

Oh wait.  Ugly as fuck.  This new one...I dunno.  Doesn't look great but it doesn't look horrible.  Pretty much follows the rest of Nissan's recent design language.

I forgot about that thing.  :barf:

most people cringe at the convertible murano and I guess juke too.  i don't understand this however.  given that suvs are for most people who don't offroad kind of impractical, what is inherently wrong with a convertible murano or juke?  Is it just a styling thing?  Why is a convertible murano more cringeworthy than a regular murano?

people pile on about how ugly the aztek was.  granted it was ugly.  but to me the sister buick rendezvous was much uglier.

I'm guessing that third row seat will be as useless as the one in the recently replaced RAV4?

I was never a fan of the bland, shapeless blob that was the old Rogue.  At least it looks as if they made an attempt to inject some style into this one.  But this is an incredibly crowded segment, chocked full of very strong competitors.  Nissan will need more than inoffensive looks to make an impression against the likes of the CX-5, Sportage, Escape, Tucson, etc.

The third row doesn't have to be like a business class airline seat for the short trip back from soccer practice with some of the neighbor kids.

Maybe not, but they still have to accommodate things like legs and heads.  Unless you're Jeffrey Dahmer and routinely carry severed torsos in your car, these things matter.

if a carseat will fit in the third row, the kid will fit.  Infant won't fit because a rear facing car seat won't fit.  Any child from age 1 to preteen will fit comfortably unless obese or unusually tall.  A booster seat takes no room at all as it is basically a secure pillow for the child to sit on top of so that the shoulder belt does not strangle them.  There is an issue however in that latch anchors are usually not available in the third row and you'll have to use a lap belt to secure the car seat.

This need for seat comfort space for short rides is overrated.  Go to any third world country, and you'll routinely find 8 people coming out of a subcompact.

Here, as long as everyone has a properly fitting seatbelt, you're good to go.

Lebowski

It's ugly but less so than most other Nissan products.
