I like how when Honda made the Shadow A.C.E., they took a perfectly well balanced normal V-twin and cut it down to a single crank pin so it would sound like a Harley. It also lost probably 20 hp in the process.

The only V-twins that are closed to balanced are 90-degree twins.  They have uneven firing, but momentum-wise they're the most balanced.  IIRC, Honda had a split-pin crank in the Shadow originally, which led to more even firing, but it still wasn't a particularly balanced motor.
