Not really. These are all cars that a coworker is interested in (mostly thanks to me). So far, the Mercedes is winning.

This is all true. With the exception of the driveshaft donuts. And the rear brakes.

The Mercedes W123 is the BEST Mercedes' ever made, and the 240D/300D are some of the most long-lasting engines ever made by the company. Those engines can withstand a lot of abuse and mileage due to their low power per liter output, tank-like-construction and simplicity.

Another bonus point for the Mercedes' is that you can still get spare parts for relatively cheap prices from the club scene or from junkyard W123s. And Mercedes themselves still provide original spare parts for the W123 albeit at slightly higher prices.

A good W123 is getting very pricey in Europe on the classic car market. The coupes and wagons are very rare these days and fetch incredible prices if you catch a good one.
