Yaris II!

Initial thoughts - It makes my old Yaris feel like shit. Despite an exhaust leak, this car is mechanically 100%. It has never been in an accident like my old one, and it feels super tight. Tracks straight, front end doesn't feel sloppy. Needs brakes soon, and probably a rear wiper blade.

It's going to take some used to getting used to no options. Crank Windows, Manual Locks

Speakers seem identical to my old sedan. Sound quality is identical

The shorter wheelbase makes it a bit more pitch sensitive, and the rear is not as easy to step out as my old sedan was.

I've never owned a car with ABS. If you don't drive like a retard you'll never need it.

That's a great local brewery that we have. Do I drink their beer? No.

Out of the four cars I owned, three of them didn't have ABS

I've never felt a need for ABS.  My winter car doesn't have it, my summer car does and only because the car couldn't be purchased any other way.

I see more value in ABS on motorcycles than cars, so I'm actually willing to spring a little extra for that feature.  On a car, I'd never pay extra for it unless it was bundled with something that I really wanted.  Actually, I think these days it's government mandated on new cars anyway, so it's moot.

Why does the front-left fender look all...fucked up.

It looks fine to me....

The salt makes it look really crinkle-y, but it's fine. There's no blemishes.

Toyota ABS is ultra-sensitive, though. It would trigger very suddenly in my old car.

The way the salt looks made me freak out for a short moment when I went to pick the car up

You bought it at a dealer, right?  And they didn't at least wash it for you, knowing you were picking it up on Friday?  Cheap bastards!  :shakesfist:

Good, cheap, and reliable. I wouldn't be bothered with the lack of options. I'd mount a nice 7" Garmin GPS on the space behind the steering wheel.

Nope, I bought it from a private seller in the middle of Bumfuck, OH. I paid what the guy owed on the car - I got it for less than 6K.

Shockingly enough, the guy still owed 6K on a car he had for 4-5 years, and was worth barely 12K new. He's the 2nd owner, so this means he bought it used.....goddamn, what a shitty loan term.

Yeah, I think I might do an aftermarket cruise control setup, and maybe a tachometer. Otherwise, it doesn't have any of the problems my old car did.

Much more shiny now. Grab you some 15x7 wheels and some good summer rubbers.

Ha. My boss, a Bosnian by birth, was given directions from one of the engineers on how to get to one of the company's smaller facilities in "Bumfuck," which was actually Mt. Morris. But, he never saw any signs for Bumfuck, so he went into a gas station and told them "I'm trying to get to Bumfuck."

Holy shit, did he finance it through a Mafia loan shark?!?

BTW, well done on the Yaris.  I rarely see these ever dip below $9K down here, so the $6K you paid for yours is a steal.

Excellent "shedding", sir!  :ohyeah:

Funny, the Yaris actually looks pretty good as a hatch (maybe because its the 3 door variety). I have only ever seen sedans driving around though.

Congrats again!

Just out of curiosity, how do you get the title after handing over the money? So you have to trust the fellow to pay it off and have the bank send you the title?

I never bought a car this way where the owner didn't have the title in hand.

No, I had my bank talk to his bank. My bank sends a check to his bank - we sign some notarized papers transferring the car to me and my bank and then I take the car. I paid my bank, then they sent the money in a check to his bank, and I get a memorandum of title from my bank.

No money ever hit his hands.

Cool, thanks for the reply, I wondered how it worked. So this is a normal practice that banks are happy to do?

Pretty typical around here.

When I sold the Tacoma, we went to a bank with a notary.  They signed things over, we both use USAA, so they transferred an electronic check over.  For the Protege, the guy paid half in cash, the other half we went to his bank and they gave me a certified check for the remainder.
