Honda Civic Type-R in Concept Form, Above

The Type-R gets Honda's new 2.0-liter VTEC turbo engine making about 275 hp. It's a car long coveted from American shores. Currently, the petition has 6,447 signatures and a 7,500 goal. Here is the text:

Honda enthusiasts demand that the discrimination against our market stops right here. There is no excuse anymore. If other countries can enjoy the best Honda has to offer, we should be able to enjoy the same rights.

Bring the type R to America once again!

Chris Martin of Honda was sent the petition when it hit about 4,000 names, and told fans that it's great to see so much enthusiasm. He also said that he can't promise anything, but that Honda will take the support into account.

7,000 nameless people signing a petition isn't going to make any auto manufacturer do something.  Honda mostly makes their US lineup in the US.  That vehicle shown isn't tooled up to be made here.

I don't know if it'd fit (pun intended). The CRZ is Fit based. We could probably put it in the Civic Sedan/Coupe with no issue, though.

What's in the Fit... a 1.6? Turbo that to 200 hp, drop it in the CRZ. There's enough people that wants Honda to do this, yet they keep their best looking car saddled with a hybrid power train that enthusiasts don't want.

Yeah, our SI was better then the Euro type R.  The JDM Type R was pretty much our Si turned up to 11.

Yes, the Euro model.  Although the Japanese market version wasn't that much better than ours.  Same platform, they got about 20 extra HP.  Definitely wasn't an NSX killer.  It out lapped the DC5 Integra Type R (type r version of the RSX) by a couple of seconds at Suzuka.

I think the Mugen RR was faster then the NSX around Suzuka.  But that was very limited run tuner special.  Now sure how livable it was.

That wasn't a head-to-head.  They compared a time from the NSX recorded more than a decade earlier to the time set by the Civic that day.  They swapped the tires on the Civic before the run, and there's no telling if the NSX was on comparable tires (probably not, tires have advanced since the 90s).  The track has likely been repaved since the NSX ran, potentially with a grippier surface.  Weather conditions were also likely not the same.

I actually saw what claimed to be--and looked like--an E34 M5 wagon for sale on Autotrader when I was searching for a car about 18 months ago.  I was very tempted.  Went a different route, obviously.

Although not really a fast laner, and I am not sure any new hondas qualify either, you did ask what you would like to be sold here.

A diesel Wrangler would be a nice addition, 300 ft-lbs torque and 29 mpg with 6-spd stick

Back in the '90s, European Car Magazine did a build project where they made an E34 M5 wagon.  They took the engine and all the M bits from a totaled M5 sedan and transferred them into a clean wagon shell.  With the exception of not having a genuine M-Technik VIN number, it was identical to a Euro-spec M5 wagon in every way.  Only 891 genuine E34 M5 wagons were built from 1992 to 1995.
