Towing with the Sorento?

As some of y'all may know, I'm gonna be moving to the west coast in a couple of months for school. I don't think I'll be there permanently (or at least I don't think I will be) so I won't be taking everything I own, but I will be there for at least a year. I plan on renting a studio/1-bedroom apartment for the time I'm there, so I'll be taking more than what will fit in my car. My plan at this point is to rent a 4x8 or 5x8 uhaul trailer and tow it with the Sorento. This means I should be able to make room inside the Sorento to sleep in it for a couple of nights. I don't really know anybody on the way except for in Calgary, AB so I'll be making a detour there to catch up with a couple of friends and crash somewhere.

Anyway, the question I have is whether it's a good idea to tow with the Sorento. Quick googling shows the Sorento is rated for 3500lbs, the 5x8 trailer is supposed to weigh ~900 lbs. And obviously I won't be loading the trailer with much weight. So I know the weight is fine, but just wondering if it'd be a bad idea on the tranny and what not since I really doubt the engineers designed this thing to tow anything, let alone across the country.

It'll be fine. I might not want to tow all the time with it, but no problem for a few cross-country trips. The weight rating (that's a class II) takes most everything into account.

A 3,500-pound tow rating is something they'd have definitely engineered for. If you see a crossover with a 1,000-pound rating, that's a little more dubious, but 3,500 is above average for what it is. They wouldn't have made that up altogether.

Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Worst that could happen is that you endanger the manifold and then the passenger's side floor panel rivets all pop and the floor falls out.

Make sure everything's in order before you leave, take it easy on the hills, should be fine.
