LaFerrari reviews

Gawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwd that sounds amazing. Electric motors do seem like a natural complement to a ~9k screaming engine, the sense of acceleration must be fantastic and relentless.

Hmmm. I think the LFA and Carerra GT sound way better. 800 N/A HP from a 6.2L V12 is unbelievable. This hybrid and turbo stuff is nonsense though.

MrH

Dear. God.

This is the one I've been waiting for.  This makes the other two look silly.  Better looking, better sounding, and a much better system IMO.  A super high revving V12, none of this 5 modes that dictate how the batteries are charged, no electric or gas saving mode.

If I won the lottery, this would be the one car I'd go to no ends trying to get.

It is what it is, and the whole packages seem awesome.

I think I would be much happier with an LF-A or an R8 or something else.  Even in the reviews they say it's pretty much impossible to drive with any kind of vigor on public roads because of how quickly everything happens in the LaFerrari.

Raza

I'm impressed, but I don't want one.  Its potential would be wasted in the hands of anyone but the top race car drivers, and I'm certainly included in that anyone.  I don't know if I'd ever want a car that I know I'd never be able to fully exploit.  It would be like a blind guy owning an amazing art collection that he keeps locked in a room in which no one else is allowed.

It is pretty good looking, though.  Definitely can see the Enzo DNA.

That just comes with the territory with supercars?

Yeah, but these things (LaFerrari, P1, 918) are so beyond anything ever built so far, that I actually don't see the point.

I'd be much happier with an Alfa 4C or Spyder.

With the change left, a 4000 sq ft house with 4-car garage.

When the technology trickles down to a $30-40,000 sportscar, then it'll have a point. Right now though, I agree with you.

I think it's silly to lose interest because it's "too fast". Supercars crossed that threshold decades ago. It's just engineering and styling porn now - everything taken to unhealthy extremes, with no connection to reality. Revel in the fantasy because realistically that's all we can aspire for.

These hypercars are so unreachable money-wise that I don't have that much interest in them. A 911 or an i8 are within reasonable dream-space. Not this.

I know it is fantastic as it should be for a million bucks.

I prefer the looks of the Porsche and McLaren  rivals over this.

The Porsche design is about the only one that actually makes sense to be a hybrid as having an electric range of a few miles is pointless.  It wins by far in actually being a drive able car with an actual interior.

I'd bet on the McLaren being faster on the track and more driveable in real life.

It's interesting, and I'm glad it exists, but at this price point I'm not excited.

The styling of modern supercars more often than not leaves me cold and I have no deep love for the technical side of it.  I find it impressive, but I can never love it.

I'd love to take one for a drive.

You guys are the worst.  Can't drive it to it's potential?  Hell, you guys can't even drive your current cars to their potential.  But driving a LaFerrari at 80% is a shit ton more fun than driving a plebeian car at 80%.

Not sure why reaching it's limit is necessary to enjoy a car.  I could drive a LaFerrari at half throttle and still be thrilled.

Does it blow blue flame out of the exhaust like the P1 and 918?

You will never reach 80% in a LaFerrari.  Maybe 25%.

I could drive my 1973 Karmann Ghia at 100%, and was more thrilling than anything else I've ever driven. Taking a bend at 40 mph right at the limit of snap oversteer. You'd definitely need a track to explore anything over 50% of the Ferrari's potential. Sure, on public roads it sounds great and you can get to legal speeds in a nanosecond, but then what?

Except that even at half throttle, you're well exceeding what could safely be done on public streets.  This is a car that can only be enjoyed on a racetrack.  It's a race car, a very fast race car, that somehow manages to be street legal.  I'd be curious to see how this car would fare against a Daytona Prototype class car on a circuit, or a C6R Corvette.

Problem is you can't fully exploit even cars like the 370Z, RX-8 or Mustang on public roads.

Not fully, but you can explore them pretty good on some back roads.

Sure, but in no time you could be in jail if a cop is coming the other way. I'd find having any car that hits 0-60 in less the 5 sec annoying because of this fear.

I'd live with it however.

MrH

Fuck it, if I had a laferrari, guarantee I'd hit triple digits every time I drove it. It accelerates and brakes so fast, you can hit 100+ and back down to legal speeds so quickly it'd be easy to do and never get caught.

Even if you do get caught, just offer the cop a ride.

Dude, you can't make it to 80% and survive in a car like this.

It's not that public roads are the problem. I will never have the skill to drive a car like a LaFerrari on a track to its potential. 370Z, RX-8, Mustang, yes, I can. But not this, not even close.

Well, I doubt anyone on this site will ever really ever have the "problem" of having one of these anyway.
