C6 sound w/ stock was pretty tame. This seems way louder.

Yes, but from the outside is quite a bit louder as well.

The piping thing doesn't really bother me I guess, but seems like with all the crap you can customize via idrive they should have added the option to turn it off.

Yes it is! But it gives a nice bark upon crank up! I didn't know the M3 had "Piped In' exhaust sound.

I haven't paid that much attention, I'm guessing like 14mpg. I always get bad mileage though owing to a 2 mile commute through a residential neighborhood.  Range seems pretty shitty too, tank only takes 13 and change gallons when the fuel warning light is on (15.9 gallon tank).

Not so much "piped in" as "synthesized through the speakers".
