Jeez yeah, nothing against Mustangs, but at 60k it's not going to be a car I'm looking at.

Corvettes depreciate only down to a certain plateau. C3's and early C4's in good condition are $8-15k. C5's are high teens/low 20's, C6's are mid-20's and upward. A nice C6 can be had for the price of a new Accord.
Yep! I'm watching C6 prices and you can get a nice LS3 C6 (2008-2010) for just under 30K!
The GS and Z06 models are holding their value extremely well.....

Tough to get an expensive muscle car unless power is all you care about or you have a big case of 70's nostalgia.

I'd be looking at used 911s, the Stingray, maybe a used M3/M4, used Jag XF.

Viper is getting a supercharger for the V10.

I'm feeling like that would make things worse

Maybe it's not the "purist" way, but technology & products in general are moving to become as multipurpose as possible, and cars are no different. A $110K car with essentially the usability of a motorcycle is doomed for failure, when you have other cars in that price range that are just as capable while being 4-5x as usable. There was an article on TTAC about the Viper, and I said there that people mistake crudeness for rawness.... a 991 GT3 matches the Viper GTS in performance and price while being way more refined and usable. When a Porsche is a good value compared to your offering you messed up. Dodge needs to figure out how to sell the Viper for the price of a GT500... that's about the price where it makes sense.

If there was a way to take that much cost out, they would have a long time ago.

It's hand built on a bespoke platform, and they only make a few thousand a year.  It's not going to be cheap to produce.

Den dey should let the robots do their thing.

Or chop down the Challenger to a 2 seater. Would be a much worse car but would probably resonate more with Dodge's customer base. Put a drop top on it and it would be good to go.

You can't pay for robots with the revenue from 2,000 vehicles a year

I don't disagree with the second statement.  But at that point, it isn't really a viper anymore.

Viper needs to be re-imagined.  It was "The" car to have for almost 15 years because it ran circles around cars costing twice as much or more.  The new Viper costs just as much as the competition and isn't much faster, if at all.  The C7 Vette has taken it's place.

Payman

What U guys said, plus the Viper was America's pin-up car, the homegrown outrageous Countach that looked badass and stole lunch money. Gearheads aspired to own one, like my brother who was finally in a position to do so. Lately though, Lexus built a more outrageous car, and a Nissan blows it away. The C7 is the new flag carrier, and it costs half as much. Like I said, the Viper is now officially irrelevant.

Today's Charger isn't a Charger and according to my ruler today's Challenger isn't a Challenger. So fuck it... they might as well bastardize the Viper name too  Plus it would be funny to see how far they could stretch (or compress) the LX platform. Could they get it down under 3500lbs? I wanna know

The Viper simply didn't evolve with the times. No one wants a car purposefully designed to be crude, esp. one costing $100k+. The head of SRT/Viper should've been fired some time ago.

Also, unlike in the '90s there are plenty of other cars available today that can assuage the Viper itch - SRT cars, and the hi-po versions of the Corvette, Camaro and Mustang.

280Z Turbo

Perhaps it's time to retire the Viper.

MSRP on how I'd build it is $75,450.

And yeah, I know the Z06 is the better deal but I just don't like how it looks and I really can't get behind the idea of a 7 speed manual. I mean do you really need 3 over drive gears? Plus, 6 gears can be confusing enough for me, I don't need one more on top of that.

Also I love the way the Z28 looks.

GM figured out that they could make better fuel numbers with the engine turning 350 RPM at 70 mph.

Yeah for manual transmissions I don't see the need for more than 6 gears.

That's one of the reasons the 911 is dead to me. The only car I would get now is the Cayman GTS.

Even driving a 6 speed is a bit weird to me. All the cars I've owned have been 5 speeds and it's perfect IMO.
