Sounds absolutely agricultural at idle. At first I was like why are we listening to a tractor idle and not the vette, then I realized it was the vette. At least it sounded OK once it was revving.

I guess it is the cylinder shutoff, they always make V8s sound like ass at idle or low speed (my hemi included).

The Corvette team should hire you as well. Maybe you can start a consulting gig and fix them all.
So any criticism of a car = insulting the teams that designed/engineered them? Is this your cowardly way of trying to silence me? Come on dude. You are usually better than this.

Nah, DI doesn't affect idle exhaust sound and cylinder cutoff isn't operate at idle. To me it sounds pretty much sounds like the ZR1 at idle (which has neither). It's mostly going to be the cam which for supercharger motors is generally quite different than for N/A motors.

Every DI gas engine I've heard has a slightly different sound at idle, and every article I've read reviewing DI motors (F/I and NA) have noted similar.  I had a DI Hyundai rental earlier this year and it had almost a diesel-ish sound at idle.

My 2.0T in my Jetta sounded like a diesel at idle.  So much so that once when I was idling by a wall, I actually thought there was a diesel car behind me, before realizing it was my car making that sound.

DI can clack away at idle but DI doesn't affect exhaust sound.

Porsche too.  :nutty:

That's one of the reasons the 911 is dead to me. The only car I would get now is the Cayman GTS.

Even driving a 6 speed is a bit weird to me. All the cars I've owned have been 5 speeds and it's perfect IMO.

Having only owned 6 speeders, 5 would feel strange.

Last I checked, we were talking about how the car's engine sounded at idle...

No, the explicit premise of my post was sound of exhaust, and that was the implied premise in SVT32V's video comments (sound at idle, sound at revving). Plus, over that exhaust note you ain't hearing no injectors.

Sounded like a diesel at idle to me, plenty of injector click

So where was it implied that it sounded unpleasant at revs?  I see an explicit statement that it sounds bad at idle, and another explicit statement that it sounds OK at RPM.  And a third explicit statement that some of the modern tech like DoD can make V8s sound bad at idle or very low RPM.  Then a follow up statement that the motor has DI in addition to DoD, implying that tech may in fact be the culprit for the sound quality at idle.

Is it really that hard to accept that you're wrong?

Guys, you're WAY WAY over thinking this. I'm not wrong about anything. There is no DI injector clicking in that video and DI does not affect exhaust sound. It sounds a bit weird (or at least not as raw as the Z06 or C7) likely because supercharger cams tend to be quite different (lots of lob separation angle and less lift).

U can hear it at idle

While you're here though post some OEM cam specs of N/A and supercharged motors

Well, I don't hear it, and I'm skeptical it's hearable what with that elevated exhaust and supercharger.

Just Google "supercharger cam" for the details. Also, the lower CR of a F/I motor will have a factor on idle exhaust sound too (not sure what it is for the C7 Z06 but ZR1 was only 9.1:1 vs. for the new LT1 at 11.5:1).

Supra was a great 40K car

Unfortunately they wanted like 80K in 1998 dollars for it. I feel like 911s and Ferraris were cheaper

I seem to recall the price being $60-65K in the mid 90s, and then they cut it back to $40-45K in the final year before they stopped selling it in the US.  They were asking 911 money for it and it just didn't have the clout to command that kind of dough so they dropped the price more in line with the Corvette.
