Wow that'd be bad.

Bring back doube DINs, dammit!

That was a brief and awesome time.
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

I'm going to get a double DIN dash panel for TUNDRA so I can have a nice TV screen like all the cool cars. Carplay, backup camera, all that good stuff.

Daring and probably idiotic move by GM to grab your data and force subscriptions

GM Getting RID of Apple CarPlay + Android Auto...:
If you took an academically weak middle schooler and fried his brain for an hour in a microwave, he'd still do a better job on infotainment design that the average UX engineer at a mainstream automaker.

Even though GM is saying they're going to move away from CarPlay and Android Auto, I'll believe it when I see it.  It might be an aspirational thing, but it's suicide in the current environment.

Interestingly, I think Honda is actually doing a good job here.  I think they're just using Android Auto OS, and not really skinning it at all?  And then allowing CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity?  Seems like the easiest path forward.

I love my Alfa infotainment (well except for not doing AA in widescreen) for the simple fact all it does is show AA/Carplay and some simple information.  Everything else has a button.

All these new systems are pure shit - including the digital dash nonsense

I'm fine with my Miata without carplay.

Real gauges, small screen for the radio, and then my phone mounted by the dash playing music over bluetooth and/or displaying Maps as needed.

I love Taco because it still has physical knobs for everything climate control. Wonderful when it's negative billion degrees and I wanna keep my gloves on.

MrH

The Bolt actually has an incredible infotainment system. Infinitely better than the RDX, BRZ, and Outback.

Yeah, its a Toyota thing. So you can keep gloves on.

Don't know if they're the same system underneath, but I rented a Tahoe last year and was super-impressed with the infotainment setup.

Not entirely persuaded by the triangular rear lights. Think I'd like to have seen a mock-up of something echoing the shape of the taillights on the Series 1 Minis.

I have since seen a profile view of the car and am less enamored with it. But still better than the current generation

Yeah not allowing carplay seems dumb. I know a few EV companies do it but it is such a dumb idea. CarPlay is so useful for me. I didn't think it was a big deal when i first got a car with it but I am not sure I would get a new car without it ever again.

I obviously don't have it on my BMW (way too old), but even on that car I mount my phone on the dash and it effectively becomes the UI there as well.

The triangle taillights, the wheels, being made by Great Wall Motors...

That's a no from me dog.

I'm surprised the going to China for such a quintessential British car. We'll see how it drives. I think it looks pretty good though.

MrH

I kind of doubt it'll even come to the states in EV form if it's made in China.

CarPlay is one few hard requisites for my next car (whenever that will be). Actually if my current 3er had it, I wouldn't think of replacing it for another 10 years.
