I'm excited to see how this thing stacks up to the M3/M4. I also remembered Cadillacs have crap resale value, which means this could be attainable down the road...

Hmmm. GM adds another to its performance stable. Surprising how much GM is investing in performance cars - Corvette and Camaro and all their iterations, SS sedan, CTS and XTS VSport, coming CTS-V and now ATS-V coupe and sedan. I've seen a number of CTS VSports, and though subtle the styling is fantastic.

ATS gauges still don't look good though.

Yeah, there is nothing in GM's performance stable I haven't found myself drooling over (except the XTS VSport)

Funny you mention that about the ATS's gauges, I just noticed that myself as you made that post. They are some of the worst looking gauges I can think of today. Shame, because the rest of the interior is terrific.

I've also never quite warmed to the ATS coupe. Unsurprisingly, I am sure I will like the ATS-V sedan way way more

Good point about resale, really paints this car in a different light for me. From a new car standpoint I'd rather spend my (similar) money on something from the germans. However on the used market, in say 3-4 years, these should be thousands(maybe even 10) less than a comparable M or AMG.

CALL_911

And I bet it'll be less of a headache in its 'advanced' age

I don't know about that, gm tends to let known quality/design problems go and the repair costs fall on the owner. There is not guarantee that it would be any better than a similar year M car.

Cookie Monster

Can't wait for the ATS-V sedan. Exterior-wise I'm not sure if I like it more than the M3/4, but the M isn't a looker (anymore), either.

Looks good IMHO, but I think I would prefer the sedan.

Anyone else find it funny (but not surprising) that the article claims to have "all of it" ("it" being the information on the car) but there isn't a mention of the price.

I'm not sure I'd call it awful, but the ATS coupe is a pretty bland-looking 2-door.  Kind of like the mid-noughties Accord Coupe.  Not nearly as dramatic, aggressive, or head-turning as the CTS coupe was.

Have you sat in one?  Build quality and materials are mediocre at best, especially the touch control center stack.

Yes, I've driven one. It's no worse than the 3er/C/A4.

I wouldn't count on it.  The first year second gen CTS-V still costs a shit load despite the regular CTS being almost dirt cheap.

MexicoCityM3

A real contender. It's probably going to be less expensive here than the M4. Tempting.

Hmm.  Interesting.  In a match up against any of its competitors, I'd place it in stone cold last place.  The plasticsmon the center console were particularly terrible and the entire center console wiggled around with only moderate force.  The new 3 and C class I sat in right after blew it away in terms of design and quality.  To each his own I guess.

To be fair, the only car in that class whose interior I wasn't ever that impressed by is the B8 A4.

Yep! Ripped the XTS to shreads, and said it had cheap materials in pictures and all the photos at the time were computer renderings!

Lol, thought so.

Seriously, from a manufacturing process standpoint, the ATS has a much more "upscale" dash than the Germans. It's all cut and sew. You can't get that in the big German three unless you get the full blown leather package on an M3, or move up to a 5 or E class. And even then, it's a package too. Audi doesn't even offer that until you move up the the A8.

To be fair, I would place Cadillac's ID interior styling motif dead last. It's just simply uninteresting.

Fuck uninteresting, it looks good. With that said, my favorite interior theme goes to Lexus these days.

And what the XTS is at its core is something that doesn't jibe with the existence of the XTS-V

Yeah, I wouldn't necessarily disagree. I like what I worked on with the ELR though. The suede to fake leather being sewn together on the same panel, and the tiered structure of the dash was cool. The ATS is pretty boring though. I'm not a big fan of the sea of piano black trim needed for all the capacitive buttons.
