I bet it drives fine, but man, puffing up the greenhouse ruined the lines. Especially that C-pillar.

I think it looks fantastic, and the C-pillar treatment looks sharp and unique. I'm glad they didn't copy everything else in the segment.

For the segment, it looks fine; especially, the interior.  I'm not keen on the segment though.  Just as soon have a 5 door hatch.

Yebbut, 5 door hatch w/AWD and extra ground clearance, yet good mileage, great interior and packaging makes it pretty compelling to me.

Well, I was thinking of the Focus ST.  Really considering getting one next spring.

Oh yes. You must do this.

The CX-5 is immensely popular here. This will continue the hits for Mazda for sure.

I like it a lot. An AWD 6MT version would be amazing. I'm probably dreaming though.

I think it's just the angle. It's probably not that nose long in person.

This should be a wonderful alternative to the Mazda3 hatch for someone who wants a bit of extra practicality -- it's definitely on the small side. Here's hoping they preserved as much of the dynamics as possible.

Would that be the CX-5?

Mazda is fighting the good fight with the Miata. Ultimately though, generally speaking, next to nobody cares about sports cars anymore.

I dislike the focus on SUV's just like anyone else. But mazda hasn't given up on anything yet. Once the 3 starts chasing corrolla driving dynamics and the miata gets a v6 and adds 1000lbs then I'll start bitching. Until then let them do what they want, as long as they still give enthusiasts something to buy.

Plus mazda really gets a pass, the Miata is probably going to be the best drivers car under 40(maybe 50K).

12,000 RPM

Yep, the Miata and BRZ are about as bold as cars can get in this market climate. Mazda also going for style and engagement over volume is pretty risky. But then, VW's sales are down, all thanks to the character-washing of the gasoline Jetta/Passat. Sales exploded when they were new but the allure is fading, whereas on the flip side I think Mazda will really be able to lure people in with their new lineup. They look good in and out and drive well too.

I want a CX-2. It would be like a Samurai, but with 155hp and independent suspensions.

Smaller and more fun than the CX-5 with still more room than the Mazda3 is a great sweet spot if this car meets expectations .

CX-5 gets pretty good reviews - the sprightlier 2.5L version at least. It's a blip on my radar if & when I decide to sell the Prius & the G

From pictures it looks like it combines the brilliance of a uselessly small rear seat and a uselessly small cargo area... Don't care enough to research that anymore

An RX-9 would surely be more practical, and a better investment for Mazda's financial future......

Halo cars keep people interested in the brand.  Toyota and Honda are just now grasping this concept.  Mazda CEO Mr Beancounter will realize in 3 years his wide selection of sluggish 4 cylinders turned the brand into a Scion level of unimportance.

No they don't. "Halo cars" are the biggest myth ever. Halo cars don't keep people interested in a brand, good desirable cars across the range do. A GT-R doesn't make a Sentra any less awful, and the absence of an RX doesn't change the 3 & 6's status as dynamic benchmarks in their segments. The "halo car" red herring is right up there with the "compete with the Germans" one... unproven, "feel good" memes people use to rationalize manufacturers building cars they want in the absence of demand or benefit for the manufacturers.

The miata perhaps. The Mazda3, fuck no. Not in the same ball park as the MX-3 GS or MX-6 LS.

Well, they lost me as a customer and fan of the brand.   FWD "benchmarks" are completely lame... as are their uninspiring 4 cylinders
