Is it just me, or has the general knowledge of the writers and commenters on that site taken a swan dive? I feel like five years ago, people on the internet talking about cars were far more knowledgable. Between this guy and that horrible guy with the shitty Lexus who makes horrible strawman arguements (Raphael Orlove) and talks about "hooning" it seems like automotive journalism is now a lost art.

The above article makes me wonder how someone so stupid could get a job writing for Jalopnik.

CALL_911

I read it for shits and giggles, but it's become the Buzzfeed of the enthusiast world.

I gave up shortly after Gawker bought them. They went full internet-car-expert with their target audience. When they cross-posted about the "just rolled into the shop" mechanics subreddit I used to enjoy, that place went full idiot too ("I don't know cars. What am I looking at?")

Murilee Martin writes for Autoweek now, apparently.

That's a great local brewery that we have. Do I drink their beer? No.

Yeah, people on the internet are dumb.

And I swear all of the commenters drive their mom's hand-me-downs. Everyone collectively sounds dumb

That dude is an idiot though. He said M96 equipped Porsches are good buys and that W220s are low maintenance and cheap to own. No thx dude.

But Jalopnik is fun. And they do have decent articles every now and then.

That's the thing.

What car nuts want to work for crap money to write about cars?  It's a cool job, but not a very lucrative field.  I almost started writing for TTAC, but it's a ton of work for little to no money.  You're not going to get the best of the breed when it comes to car nuts if that's all it offers.

Jalopnik is the best source for up to the minute news on things going on, but most opinion articles are garbage.

Jalopnick and TTAC and the like I view as more blogs than a place for serious journalism.  They are unabashed, biased sites that are fun to read but nothing to take too seriously.
