Where do you put your phone in your car?

When I think about it; the lack of good OEM phone mounts is most likely a legal decision; as a good one that puts a phone where most people would want it would become another type of in-car video screen, and since there's no way to make sure people don't use it to watch youtube cat videos while merging onto the freeway...

I'm surprised OEMs aren't integrating in some sort of phone holder spot. 

I'm right now in a 2015 CR-V test car with a designated cellphone spot between the front seats. It works great for my phone, but Honda's development lead time was probably too much for it to realize that the jumbo "phablet" phones were about to explode in popularity -- my fiancee's OnePlus doesn't fit at all. Always the risk when carmakers try to accommodate the electronics world; gadgets change so fast.

In other cars, as other people have said, usually the cupholder or between my legs.

If I'm driving alone which is the majority of the time, on the passenger seat.  I usually have my cell phone hooked up to a charger and an FM transmitter which I use to listen to audiobooks.

If I'm driving with a passenger in the front seat, I'll keep the phone in either the center armrest or center cupholder.

That totally blocks your view.  Especially at an intersection or crosswalk.  Especially when there is a phone in it.  If you put your phone in the holder, it would be exactly like having a third A-pillar in that 2nd photo. 

It doesn't block my view at all. I've positioned it in the center of the windscreen and even with my phone in it I am capable of seeing what goes on far right and ahead of the car. My seating position also helps.

I'll take a video ASAP to prove it, if that helps.

Same. If things aren't secured in the Miata, they're going for a ride. I do put my phone on the seat of the 4Runner though, because if the phone flies off in that thing, it probably means I've rolled the car.

Unless it's transparent, anything that sits between your eyes and the windscreen inherently blocks part of your view out of your windscreen.

Well, it would drive me nuts there, whether or not it actually ever blocked anything important,
