If you could pick one car to be your project car, what would it be?

Or order from fortune auto and when lyft rider asks why your car feels bumpy you can show them the dyno curve

Probably a sn95 Mustang GT manual coupe. Basically stock aside from suspension, brakes, tires, and light engine adjustments. Just for a cheap track beater. I need track time.

Assuming current skills or can I upload them to my brain a la The Matrix? If I got a neural shunt I would work on a DS.

What would be the fun in that?
Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

Mine? Assuming time and money to complete it?

A Lamborghini Espada. Yes, it's a weird two plus two Lamborghini and the doors don't even swing upward, but I've always found them fascinating; and they have as one might expect a reputation for fickleness and fragility and heart stoppingly expensive parts.

A perpetual project car if ever there was one.

This thread is much more my style. Except picking only one car is impossible.

I'll go with a '32 Ford sedan rat rod, but nicely finished (painted). Lots of room for creativity and craftsmanship in something like that.

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Im gonna have to sleep on this one.

Just one?????

Upper end of realistic would probably be a 996 Carrera with turbo fenders, PSS9s and the 3.4 punched out to like 4.4L

Realistic would be either VQ35 Z3 shoe or a V6 MR2. If I had to choose between those two prob the V6 MR2

This would be one of the many engines options in my rat rod. Flathead, rotary, or angry hemi. Or inline-8.

Why not radial?

My first choice would be a 60s era VW camper. But, for a car--any one of the following: 74 Honda Civic, a 1973 Toyota Celica, a late 70s Celica, a Datsun 510 (or 240z), or a BMW 2002.

That is amazing.

It's awesome; but being an aircooled engine designed to live directly behind a propeller, i wonder how useful it is under that hood.

Some interesting choices thus far.  I've always liked the Espada for example.  The VW  camper is also a great choice as is the Samba Bus (the one with all the windows) but those are commanding silly prices.

I'm in the process of actively looking for a new project and have narrowed down the choices to:

Jaguar E-Type, any body style is OK, looking for a rough driver to restore to concours/driver condition.  I've got a ton of parts left from the last one and know the car.

Ferrari Mondial, because it's a Ferrari and only the purists care that it's "just" a Mondial.

Lotus Espirit,  Just because I like the looks.  I've judged them in concours in the past so I know what to look for.

1968-1972 Fiat 124 Sports Spider.  I know the car inside and out, Acquire an 1800 CC engine, balance and blueprint it, modify it with an overbore, cc the heads, add a cam and better induction and exhaust and a fun car with a great body becomes a funner car with a great body.  I've had two and these are actually pretty bullet proof once properly sorted.

If I can't find anything like the above that I like by this time next year I'm going to say "f**k it" and buy a used F-type.

GoCougs

240Z with a hot L6 or maybe a VQ.
Early '70s Camaro with an LS7 or LSX454.
'68 Charger with modern stroked Hemi.

Each to have 5-6 sp M/T, IRS, modern brakes with ABS, beefed up suspension, beefed up chassis, modern tires. Also, each to preserve its factory look as much as possible.

I'd like the see the transmission arrangement as well. The driveshaft is vertical, isn't it?

The crankshaft is vertical, and exits out to a bevel gear 90 degree gearbox and is sent rear to a rear mounted transmission. I tried finding pics on the net, but I couldn't.
