I think I want a shifter kart

Tracking a car = too fucking expensive. Id need a dedicated car, garage, and the consumables on even a Miata would kill me

Tracking the bike = a def possibility, but still, I like 4 wheels.

Tracking a superkart = 4 wheel familiarity with 2 wheel running costs and brutality. A 250cc kart is pricey but a 125cc is prob as fast as my old Z, corners 2gs w/no aero and is reasonably priced. Lel, if wifey gets a Golf Sportwagen I could prob load it in with the seats folded.

I'd do it in an instant if I were you.  How far is gopro motorplex from you?

If you can I'd try borrowing/renting for 3 trips or so.

AutoX looked fun in a shifter kart and provided more opportunity also:

One of the regulars in my SCCA region runs a shifter kart.  Seems most run TAG karts (single speed gearbox and auto clutch, still very quick once the clutch hooks up), though.  The shifter, especially, is nutty fast.  Pulled a wheelie with it this past weekend.  Also don't seem terribly forgiving or easy to catch when they break loose.

You can track a car for very little, it is entirely possible. I've met some people running on miniscule budgets and having no problems at all. In fact there was just a article a few months back in SCCA magazine about a guy running in several classes, as well as professionally, with probably barely 20K in overall car costs(he bought a new mazda 2).

For 4K you can build a nice miata track car, it isn't going to be a show winner, or set fastest laps, but it will be reliable, cheap and very fun.

Shifter karts can get expensive too.  We've got an indoor karting place near work I go to pretty regularly.  It's cheap thrills and I don't have to worry about towing a kart and maintaining it.

I will have to see about the regular karts. Maybe I will be happy with a regular one speed kart. Def bringing my own damn helmet though
