I like it.

Definitely a nice alternative in the usually overwrought/ugly under $30K SUV segment. (Looking at you CR-V and RAV4).

giant_mtb

Looks good.  Definitely an improvement.

Yeah, it's definitely nicer than those two, but I thought they were quite a bit cheaper?

In any case, I'd still take the CX-5 over this, but this would be a strong contender/runner up.

Love to have a TDi version.

SJ_GTI

I am not really a CUV person, but IMHO it looks pretty good.

Eye of the Tiger

Does it have a V10 TDI, yet?

I like it too, but not in this R-line trim, it makes the car look oddly tall.

Tave

Huh? It looks way too not-tall for an SUVish thingymabob.

Depending on price, that could be a good deal.

Tave

But other than that looks good.

I like it but what's with all that plasticky stuff on the bumper.  My Beetle has it too and if anything hits the front bumper at 2 mph it cracks.  A normal bumper you just get a tiny dent or small scratch.

You should read about the nightmares with maintenance and repairs on V10 TDi Touregs. It's LOL worth to say the least.

Ride height doesn't really look much more than a regular car.  Just looks like the body is taller.  If that's the trend, how long before we revert to cars proportioned like they were pre-WW2?

We are already there. That was supposed to be one of the Taurus selling points. And basically what the CUV is

I like this, but I'm waiting to see what Mazda does with the next cx7. The concept for that is out and it looks damn good. Supposed to have a turbo 2.5 that will probably go in the next MS3 and hopefully not be completely awful like the last one.

Evoque is also compelling. Lot of great contenders for wife's next ride

I was never a fan of the styling of the current Tiguan, this however I like. Here VW has gotten on the right side of the very fine line of elegant understated styling on the one hand, and cars that are mere copies on the other.

I do prefer the regular Tiguan styling over the R though.

One thing that bothers me slightly:

Something looks off here. The wheels are to big compared to the car, almost like one of those toon cars.

Yeah, it definitely needs to go one step down in rim diameter/aspect ratio.

Cookie Monster

Wheel wells also look a bit too big, at least in that picture. Smaller wheels/tires would just exacerbate that issue.

They sold just paint the little fender lips. They usually do that too reduce visual mad but this thing had low enough shoulder lines and big enough wheel wells that is not necessary.  Good thing is the base version looks great.  Looks like a Touareg without the maintenance nightmares

SJ_GTI

Pretty sure that is the R Line version. I am sure the normal version will have more tire and less wheel (plus have a higher ride height).

But for me, it looks good as is.

Yeah, but they could tow a 747!
