I brought back a couple of car magazines found in the attic of my parents' house. Here's an ad from the January 1968 issue of Car Mechanics:

Two stroke? We need more of those. It could be the next Prius. It's a hybrid, it burns gas and oil!

Gosh, not seen one of those for years.

You could always tell them a long way off, as they sounded very distinctive and they usually put out clouds of blue smoke.

The last handful were made with VW Polo 1300cc 4 stroke engines (and some naff plastic bumpers and grille to update the looks).

Ooh, British-made radial tyres.

No wonder East Germans had to wait 10 years for one of these: the limited supply was allocated for export (one of the reasons).

Ooh, British-made radial tyres.

The East German ones were made from potato skins reinforced with plastic resin and filled with sawdust.

This magazine has several articles clipped out: no doubt useful tips saved by my dad.

I used to put tires made in former East Germany on the VW Beetle I had in the 90's. They were old school bias ply and looked great on there. Dirt cheap, too.
