Stumbling out of San Francisco and into the varicose pavement along the coast, I expect the NSX to come alive, to shine like the new penny wonder its ancestor was.

Too late now, but IMO it would have been a better idea to have kept it under ~3000lbs, scrap the turbos and front hybrid motors and made it a ~400HP feedback machine. Honda claims it wasn't chasing performance figures or w/e but it sure dues seem like they gave up a lot to meet them. O well

If you read till the end, you'd see they said with the appropriate Michelin PSS's in Track mode it's actually decent. With the shitty all season Continentals and in Sport/Sport+ mode it sucks.

Still though, I agree. 3,800 lb is a crap ton and IMO they've diluted the NSX name by releasing this thing which is in no way similar at all to the original.

Over 3800lbs for a 2 seat midengine car. Honda just said "fuck it... we promised and got this far, just extrude this turd".

On the upside, there are rumors of a car below this that will pretty much be as I described, for like half the price or less. Still MR, but with a 1.5 turbo 4 hybrid instead. Will be <3100lbs (so 3,092). I still think they should just throw cams in the old Accord V6 IMA and go from there but who am I.

Manufacturers are going too far. Cars like the Cayman are in the sweet spot IMO. Who would buy that NSX over something like a GT4 or GT3 for less $$$? I don't get it.

It sounds like a tire upgrade makes it a much, much better drive? If that's true, then yeah - Honda's dumb for speccing the OEM tires, but if just a couple grand worth of tires makes the car awesome, why this gloomy writeup?

Never underestimate the importance in choosing proper footwear. The hero Michelins transform the NSX from a vague, confidence sapping experience into a car that encourages you to push a little harder, to gun for the next apex and dive deep. There's turn in where there was no turn in before. Grip. Glorious, glorious grip. The right rubber lets you use this miracle machine Honda stitched together, and you can feel a quiet thread of commonality singing back to that special car, the first NSX.

In Track Mode and shod with the sticky Michelins, the NSX wakes up. The hellish understeer nearly vanishes. It's not a neutral car by any means, but it's easier to point in the direction you want. The rest is managed with big lifts of the throttle or brakes. The tail rotates and sets beautifully. It's so good, you wonder why the engineers buried it under a nasty pile of algorithms and unfortunate tire.

I feel like there wouldn't be a consensus forming around a hot new car if there weren't some truth behind it. Usually it takes a comparison test for a supercar to get hit with criticism.

But maybe it's the years of delays that used up the positive "hey, look at this cool thing!" articles.

Everything I have seen says the car isn't very fun.
