I still think the San Francisco one was the best one.  Watch it right to the end of the credits, there is a preview of the car he is using in Gymkhana 9 and it's pretty wild.

My favorite part was blasting sideways through the sand drift.

I wonder what kind of damage that did to the engine.

Barely got warmed up I expect...now the tires, that's a different matter.

Ken Block is overrated.

I'm talking about the sand the engine inhaled.

Probably just polished the valves and combustion chambers.

If they planned it right, they could have shot that scene last and just rebuilt the motor right after.

Oh I'm sure that's definitely what happened.

giant_mtb

Is this that video where he does donuts around a cone or object or some moving object for way too long?? 😲

I got bored with these a while ago. :mask:

Ken Block is overrated.

He's no question a good driver, but he's an even better self-promoter.

No, and he wouldn't have gotten any notice by any rally teams without his self-promoting videos. But, he's still a good driver with a decent amount of skill.

No.  It didn't have any fluidity to it.  We all know these videos are pieced together using the best segments from multiple runs, but this video didn't feel like any segment was even related to the last one.  San Francisco was so well done that it feels like it was all from a single run, and as someone who has driven all those same streets, it felt genuine that one segment would lead into the next. Gymkhana 5 was definitely the peak.

But 7 had the Hoonicorn and the low rider. LA and SF are tied for me.

He was racing rally, pretty successfully, years before the first of his viral Gymkhana videos were ever made.  Gymkhana 1 was in 2008.  He'd been competing in the Rally America series since 2005 and regularly finishing on the podium.

He got into racing because he has money. And he's pretty good. Not the best, but for not becoming a racing driver until he was 35 (or whatever), he's great.

Yup.  People don't realize that he's 48 years old.
