Your car is a decent size bro. Couldn't do infant seats in an A3

Backseat is about the same size as a Civic/Corolla/Impreza. Little bit bigger than ATS, little bit smaller than a 3-series, IIRC.

Edit: My brother was also able to fit the seats in the back of his GTI before he sold it. The only problem he had was trying to actually get the kids in to the seats because it was a two door. If it was a 4-door GTI we probably wouldn't have carpooled (when he sold the GTI and bought a minivan we stopped).

Most cars these days are designed to accommodate stuff like that. In other countries, smaller cars are often family cars, so they've got to be able to fit a baby seat in them. I think the only car that probably won't accommodate a rear facing seat would be something like a Fiat 500.

I mean, a rear seat even fits in a Chevy Spark

S4 isn't that big. It's a compact.

They were ever since they went to the "back-facing-color-coordinated-stroller-too" super-espensive configuration.

Cars.com does car-seat checks as part of its reviews, and frequently the only way the biggest car seats fit are by sliding the front seat so far forward that there's no space up there.

I don't think it's about style -- more that the bigger seats are supposed to be much safer in a crash for a young baby.

To some extent it's safety, but then no girl wants an ugly carseat or diaper bag.

And really, girls go super gaga for baby stuff.      "It's so CUUUUUUTE!!!!!"

Even if that's true, does being huge somehow make it cuter, though?

If a child seat doesn't fit in the rear of something as large inside as the X1 (or even our Countryman) that seat is not for us. I am not getting a huge ass car just to fit a rearward facing seat for some negligible benefit in safety.

The rearward facing are pretty much all the same size, and it's the ONLY carseat recommended for infants. (children under 9months)

In the US.

Maybe we need to start off small. I mean, they don't let you fuck the glumpers at Glumpees without a level 4 FuckPass, do they?

The super big seats are the "convertible" ones: it's an infant seat; a forward facing toddler seat; it's also a booster seat when the time comes, and after that it turns into a dorm sized bed and desk. Plus it's got cup holders, snack holders, iPad holders and a retractable canopy!

They can fit, but not safely. At least this particular seat.... maybe a smaller one would do the trick. I'm 5' 10" and my wife is 5' 11" with long legs.... it would be questionable. I'm wondering if one could fit in the middle but I doubt it.... and in any case we might have two infants overlapping (pray for us) so we would need something that could fit them behind the seat fair and square.

Naw, it's about safety bro. Do you know any "girls" who have actually said this?

Argument could be made that people are too crazy about safety but this "cute" stuff just sounds like silly stereotyping.

Ok, got it, it's about the safety.   I agree.

Now when y'all go shopping for baby stuff see if the cheap stuff flies.
(Hint: it won't be as cute but it's 100% identical in functionality. It'll be on clearance because no girls bought it.)

I simply don't know what the child seat regulations are in Mexico.

Yeah; every single woman I've ever known, from little girls to women who grew up riding horse and buggies to school; every single one of them are absolutely into buying cute things for the new baby.

Cute sells baby stuff.

When is the last time you bought baby stuff? Stop pulling this stuff out of your ass.

Wifey and I are hugely research driven buyers. Wifey is actually the tightwad in the relationship. So as long as it's safe she will be down.

Looking more into in there is a wide range of sizes for rear facing seats. So it may be possible to find something that will fit in these rides.

Not that it bears any relationship to the current discussion in this thread, but seeing "Cadillac" in a thread title reminds me of the beautiful powder blue '64 Coupe de Ville I owned when I was younger. Looked like this except light blue:

OK, back to the baby seat discussion.  :muffin:

Obviously I don't have kids (and probably never will (foreveralonelife)) but I find it amusing that people say they can't use a midsize family sedan as a family sedan.

However did people survive for generations in the back seats of tiny tin cans without rear facing seats?! Damn safety nazis are ridiculous.

*disclaimer - this is all from my "lul racecars are teh best!!" viewpoint and is subject to change if I ever have kids for some reason
