They jacked up the price one mo 'gin.... base price is $111K. Black Edition will be another $10K, NISMO another $50K based on previous prices. They gave it an upgraded interior and mandatory titanium exhaust. Here's what base price money COULD get you:

- Viper with change
- Vette Z07 fully loaded
- 911 Carrera S with options
- 911 Carrera 4S without options

Black Edition money could get you:

- AMG GT without options (!!!!)
- Aston Martin Vantage V8 without options (!!!!)
- 911 Carrera 4S w/PDK and options
- 911 GT3 (if they still made it)

NISMO version puts you in spitting range of:

- R8 (!!!!!)
- McLaren 570x (!!!!!)
- NSX

Nissan is smoking crack!

Next GT-R better look like this:

Its no wonder monthly sales are down.....................

How long did the $70k price last? Like one year, maybe two? That was a crazy bargain, but now it's meh.

It was good when it gave you Ferrari slaying performance for M3 convertible money. Now it is just an ugly overweight 911 competitor

What do you mean GT3 (if they still made it)? Did something happen to my beloved GT3 that I don't know about?!

Sustaining a competitive edge - R35 GTR, LS400, NSX, S2000, etc. - is something the Japanese are absolutely terrible at - it's criminal. Just imagine if these and other similar watershed moments were sustained for the long haul...

Id take a base gtr over your listed competitors. The 911 s would actually be the only car of that group that would give me serious pause. Otherwise the performance of the viper is great, but certainly not as livable. Since any of these cars would see hard driving and track use that eliminates the z06.

I wish they made a slightly lower performance model with 6 speed stick.  I'd be putting pennies in a jar for one of those.

Japan maintains the competitive advantage where it matters.

Which is? Origami?

Japan is a great country but has been stagnant for decades now.

It is not in production until the 991.2 gen comes along. It is also always so limited in relation to demand that the list price and availability are myths. I hate Porsche for that.

The country, sure. Japanese car companies, not so much. They make the benchmarks in the highest volume segments. Plus as we all know people aren't buying sports cars or even sports sedans (at least in true enthusiast form) like they used to. It's a wonder why Nissan makes the GT-R at all to be totally honest.

A slightly less powerful GT-R would have the same power to weight ratio as a sloth.

Turbo 370s are the shit.  Under $50k for one using top notch stuff.

I think Sporty understood slightly to mean like how a Civic is slightly less fun than a 350Z.

There's more to a DD than how fun it is. I'd just sell all my cars and ride the bike for that

Accord, Civic, Corolla, Camry, Tacoma, Prius, CR-V, Rav4...  All among the best and best selling in their respective classes.  Granted, none save perhaps the Prius are really cutting edge or exciting.  They just do what they're supposed to do.  The Japanese do mainstream vanilla very well.

I know. I thought he was talking of Japan the country. I agree that Japanese car cos are best at transportation appliances - with an occasional flash of greatness like the ones Cougs brought up.

Z was more fun to drive than the GT-R in my opinion. Z feels like a sports car, GT-R feels like an Altima SE-R.
