I guess a new 911 R is less than a Singer 911, but on the used market they are going for more... so to average it out, let's just say they are the same price.

Both insanely expensive IMO. I'd have a 488 over either.

I'd take a Singer over anything else. Exquisitely built and extremely exclusive. I like the 488, but it's no contest.

I guess I've never been bitten by the 911 bug. There are many cars I'd have over these pair for less money.

The Singer is all you could really ask for.  The panache of the vintage with the performance of the new.  There's a class the older cars had that the newer ones can't touch.  Faster than anything you can really use already, I would also take it over the 488.  Or any current Ferrari.

The 911 R is pretty amazing.  But my heart says it comes in second in this race.

Tough call.  I was never a big fan of the 964.  But I do appreciate the detail that Singer puts into his restos, not to mention the performance.  Certainly a much more special, and likely more well-built, car than the 911R.

Singer.

The R is cool but I can't imagine paying over msrp for it.

Rich

I love the Singer.  But I'd be so guilty when I drive it.  They are one off works of art, IMO.  I'd feel bad getting a bug splat on one or a rock chip.

In my dreams, those Singers would run about 13K new and have a robust production line pumping them out so they are everywhere so i can drive the shit out of one and keep getting new ones every few years.

The Singer is the Stradivarius of the automotive world.

Singer is the only answer to this question.

Never heard of the Singer 'til now, but I'd take it. It's fuckin beautiful.

CaminoRacer

I'd build my own classic 911. No need to spend an insane amount for the Singer when I know how to do exactly what they do.

They do it better. You have skills, no doubt, but these guys are artists.

Oh I'm sure. But is it worth the price? I can't personally justify it knowing I could get close enough for much less.

Well, if you bring money into it...

They are absurdly expensive. I'd be more than happy with a restored SC, and happier still if it was a 3.2 engine swap with as modern of a suspension as possible.

+12 for Singer

Though I'm with whoever said they'd feel guilty driving it. Ideal for me would be the Singer mechanicals under an "unrestored" 964 body and interior.

If you have the choice between air cooled and water cooled for a 911 you have to go air cooled. That is the rule.

On the other hand, if they restored it once they can do it again. Might as well enjoy it.

They don't really "restore" it as much as just make their own CF panels.  So yeah just call em up for a new one from time to time.

Definitely the 911R. The Singer is ridiculous, and not in a good way. A ton of time and money is put into things that just don't make it a better car, or even matter. Hundreds of hours custom sizing and fitting body panels? So many thousand$ in fancy trim? Nah. That kinda stuff actually makes a car less better.

Agree.  I don't want to spend a small fortune on someone else's kit car.

I'd take a 911 GT3, preferably 991.2 ver over either.  But definitely the 911R over this singer thing.   I think a gt3 4.0 RS is.probably the most desirable but those have shot up in value.

I see it as less a kit and more like a coach built car.  Given the significant performance enhancements, it could also be classified as a turn-key tuner car (like RUF, Dinan, Saleen, or Alpine), except it's done on old cars rather than new ones fresh off the assembly line.  Truthfully, the closest thing to it is the Eagle Speedster E-type resto-mod that has been featured on more than one episode of Top Gear.

This poll needs a none of the above option.

Yes to your Singer comments. But the 911R - at this price - is also ridiculous. For MSRP it's sort of ok.
