Inspired by the Automotive Perversions thread.

As the double whammy of a stagnant economy and fuel costs/emissions regulations hit automakers in the '70s, they were desperate to still sell sporty cars as sporty; even if they could be outran by an angry dachshund. So increasingly they turned to desperate over the top graphics packages to convince the buyer that by golly these really were Fast Cars, they promise.

And god help me, I find some of them strangely compelling.

Yeah. It can be.

That one actually irks me for a few reasons, not the least of which is that somehow a truck was supposed to be a nostalgic nod to a car. Probably the biggest one is that Dodge doesn't even put their name on a truck anymore.

You have to feel for anyone who worked for a domestic OEM in those days.

Can you imagine waking up everyday knowing your livelihood depended on your ability to sell a 100HP Pinto as a Mustang? There must have been a huge brain drain.
