DST?

Keep DST. I don't even notice it because my digital clocks set themselves.

I saw a lady driving an Outback today with no rear lights. At first I thought she just forgot to turn her lights on, but I could clearly see light in front of her car, so I pulled up next to her at the next light to tell her that both of her rear lights were out.

Of course, she just had DRLs (which is what I saw) and had forgotten to turn on her real lights...

Yeah, those Subaru and Toyota DRLs can be pretty bright.

One reason I don't like DRL headlights.  Also, while they look cool, gauges that are always backlit, in conjunction with bright DRL headlamps, make it easier to forget to turn on your lights.  My VW's DRLs are the low beams, but the instrument illumination is off when the headlight switch is off.  My biggest clue to remember to turn the headlights on is that I can't see the instruments or stereo display.

Yeah, that combination should be illegal.

That's another pet peeve of mine, even without the DRLs. Many cities are lit well enough that you may not notice your lights are off either way.

The 4Runner gauges actually blind me when the sun sets.  That's the biggest indicator for me to turn on my lights.  The nav map is a blinding white until you flip the headlights, then it switches to night mode.

People should be illegal. I have never, ever ever, ever started driving at night without turning the lights on, in any vehicle, ever. I have turned them off to avoid being seen, but that was with a pacific porpoise.

Yeah, I don't like bright instrument illumination at night, but a lot of people run with their gauges on full brightness at night.

Another factor is that some newer vehicles that have always-on instrument illumination will auto-dim the instruments for low light even if the headlights aren't on.  My Mustang does this.

With my hours, and how short the days are this far north, I get into work before sunrise and leave after sunset for about a 5 week stretch.  No windows in the office, either.

No joke.  I had some routine blood work done during the winter a few years ago and my Vitamin D levels were ridiculously low.  I've been taking supplements from November to April ever since.

I bought a bottle for the first time ever last winter. I'm SO bad at taking pills daily, though...I think I ate like 3.

I didn't feel ill.  My doctor just wanted to do some routine blood work to check cholesterol and such since I hadn't had it done in a while and they picked it up.  I'd probably had seasonal low vitamin D levels for years.

I'd imagine just about everyone living above the 45th parallel or so experiences low-D every winter.  Whether they feel it or not.

I've never had an issue, but I've never not experienced a northern winter, so...just used to it.

Wtf is a 45th parallol? I take a liquid multivitamin. Very absorbant. It gets too dark to work after 5:30. My shop has crappy lighting, and transmissions are dark inside. My dog basically never sees daylight, since he is stuck in the house while I'm at work. Poor dude probably has no vitamin D.

Actually a bit south of the 45th here, but the combination of short days, heavy seasonal cloud cover, and working in an office without windows results in my seeing little to no direct sunlight for months.
