Unless you're talking sound quality the speakers should provide more than enough volume at any speed. If you're streaming Bluetooth make sure you have the volume on your device set all the way up, or it will kill the output.

The hill assist is indeed annoying. I've been living with the VW's which was a huge PITA; if it makes you feel better the Miata's is relatively well done.

Pretty sure it engages all brakes.

Were you the most distinctive car in the group?  And was most of the group "work trucks"?  Because it's pretty well known that if you're driving a "work truck" spec pickup, particularly a heavy duty (3/4 or 1-ton), you pretty much have a free pass to drive as fast as you want on the highway.
